Finally you can add our completed date. Hubby got letter from USCIS today saying he is a permanent resident and they are ordering his ten year card. They give date of approval as October 6th.

So eleven months and one day.........

WEDDING DAY 05-07-05

RECVD CARD IN MAIL 09-17-05

GAVIN STARTS WORKING 09-19-05

RECVD AOS INTERVIEW LETTER 10-28-05

INTERVIEW IN BOSTON 12-12-05

After such a long 11 month wait, you deserve it! It's good to know that the VSC is doing something, even if it takes a long long time. Too bad though, you couldn't get a refund for the I-751, as you only have the 10yr card for a short time now.

Oh well, onto the next stage of citizenship for you, Katand7!

Good luck on your upcoming interview on Oct 27 and hope that they approve you then (they better, after making you wait so long). Wow, 1year+7months is a long time to wait! By the way, did you apply for citizenship yet? As well, what did you do after your NOA expired?

I'm debating whether I should go get a stamp in my passport to extend. I guess any day I could be getting approved, and I would hate to waste the trip down there in vain. There's a possibility I may be having a short trip to mexico in 4 1/2 weeks. My return would be a day after my NOA expires.

I'm debating whether I should go get a stamp in my passport to extend. I guess any day I could be getting approved, and I would hate to waste the trip down there in vain. There's a possibility I may be having a short trip to mexico in 4 1/2 weeks. My return would be a day after my NOA expires.

Any suggestions.

I would get a passport stamp just in case. Things happen and it's better to be safe than sorry. Remember that after you get approved you have to wait like a week to get the actual card. I though I was almost getting approved but as you can see in my timeline, some people that applied after me have already been approved and I haven't. So it's best to be prepared.

BTW do you guys think that I might get an interview or and RFE because I haven't been approved yet? or is it normal to sometimes have people that applied after you to be approved before you?

I'd say get the Passport stamp..if anything delays your trip home (missed flight, weather etc) you'll wish you did.

We're in a similar (but worse) situation. We leave on 12/10 for the Caribbean and Richard's NOA exipres on the the 14th. :help: . If his approval does not come in the next few weeks, he'll have to make an appointment for a Passport Stamp.

Hi Missmariemc,

In my opinion, I think that it's "better safe than sorry" that you get the I-551 passport stamp before your NOA expires soon. As you can see from other VJ member's experiences, one can't simply assume that because their case is nearing the USCIS' processing timelines, that they will actually be processed on when indicated as such. And without a valid stamp and/or NOA letter and the expired green card, you'd be taking a risk of not being able to get back to the US, which is something I'm sure you don't want to happen.

Likewise, for me, I'll be doing such too, if it ever comes to that point for me next year that my NOA is expiring with an expired green card and I have no other way to prove my legal US status when asked such (I probably won't go travelling anyways).

The only problem is that my Canadian passport will be expired by then (and it's way too much hassle and cost to get a new one), so I might not be able to get a passport stamp....uggh....So I'm really hoping that they will approve me within the year, before my NOA expires (but I admit, am somewhat pessismistic about)!

I'm debating whether I should go get a stamp in my passport to extend. I guess any day I could be getting approved, and I would hate to waste the trip down there in vain. There's a possibility I may be having a short trip to mexico in 4 1/2 weeks. My return would be a day after my NOA expires.

Any suggestions.

Absolutely,

I had no intentions of leaving the country without either a stamp or the actual card. The question was whether or not I should continue waiting and hoping on the approval or just go get the stamp asap.

In reality, I guess I should be able to wait until November 19th which would be 3 days before my trip to go in and get a stamp, on the other hand, I could just go and get it today/tommorrow......

I just hate going down to Newark!
