I just called the DMV to enquire about my wife's state ID we applied for 7 weeks ago. When we applied, we were told up to six weeks for processing, but on the phone, that it could be six months to a year because they have to prove legal residence. It seems like a long wait. Does that sound right?

Doesn't sound right. My husband had a SS# and took his driving test and got his license in about 2 weeks. An ID shouldn't take any longer. Did you provide proof when you applied? Does she have a SS#? If not, that might be part of the problem,as DMV checks for that on their computer. Good luck, and I'd go back in in person and work it out and noy rely on the phone.
