If an immigrant's application for a residence visa has been waiting more than six months and the only missing piece is a name check to be performed by the FBI, immigration officers will be allowed to approve the application, according to a memo posted Monday on the Web site of the federal Citizenship and Immigration Services agency.

That's great news in that we don't have to worry about getting caught up in name check forever.. But it seems like a threat to national security. Rather than "loosen" up they should find quicker methods to do the background investigations properly.
