Hello everyone here at VJ,

Some time in January, my husband went to a Civil Surgeons in NYC and he paid $250 dullards for his examination and blood test.

Last Friday, we received a bill for $780 dollars from Columbia Presbyterian. When we called and asked them why the new charges if he had already paid $250 dollars for this and he had the received to prove it. They lady on the phone had a thick Spanish accent and my husband could not understand her, so I picked up the phone and talked to her in Spanish. She said that it was because they did a lot of blood test they had to charge more. I think the believe that that my husband arrived yesterday from Morocco and that probably did not have common sense. My question is, has this ever happen to anyone here at VJs. What can you do to protect yourself from scammers (that what they are) like this?

Thanks,

liby.

I have read a lot of times that the CS tries to get a lot of money for doing the supplemental. I think some of these people think being given the status of civil surgeon by the U.S. Government gives them the right to steal. The doctor should have informed you of the additional fee.

The doctors recognize this as a great way to make money since the exam is a necessity for us. I paid $205 for my exam plus $74 for a vaccine and an additional $66 for blood tests. They also don't accept insurance for this so they can have us pay as much as possible.
