Translation Spanish/English

Guys,

Dont want to repeat myself, but want to confirm with some of you if you know the answer or if you heard something similar to this.

Last week I called NVC and ask about translation from Spanish into English, they told me that is not required and that this is something new started from Jan 1st. When my husband call he got the same answer. Does anyone of you is informed or had the same/similar experience?

I don't know the exact best thing to tell you but I think I would email NVC and get the response in writing...

No.This is something I have not heard.Since most of the time,they give out wrong information on the phone,it would be better to e-mail them.They do respond when you e-mail them.

Your post is a bit vague...what exactly are you unsure of...if it needs translation or not? For documents submitted to the consulate, if the document is not in English OR the native language of the country where the consulate is located, then an English translation needs to accompany said document. Otherwise, no you do not need a translation.

Thank you guys for all your advices and opinions,

I called last night NVC same answer, dont need to be translated this is new that start Jan 1st, and on my question :"Who is gonna check the documents on Spanish?!?!", their answer was:" We have people here who speaks Spanish language."

But anyway, for my convenience I emailed NVC this morning and we will see what answer will I get from there, and once I will receive it I will post and inform you all.

That doesn't make any sense since the Department of State web site clearly says that every document not in English needs to have a translation. This is what I found for Lima:

Documents The Applicant Must Submit

Appointment NVC Processing

Document Requirements

The applicant and each family member who will accompany the applicant to the United States will need to submit the following original documents or certified copies of the documents listed in this section from an appropriate authority (the issuing entity). In addition to sending the original documents or certified copies of the documents to the NVC, the applicant and each accompanying family member must submit a photocopy of the original documents or certified copies of the documents.

Birth Certificate

Court and Prison Records

Deportation Documentation

Marriage Certificate

Marriage Termination Documentation

Military Records

Photocopy of Valid Passport Biographic Data Page

Police Certificate(s)

All documents that pertain to the applicant’s petition are required, even if they were previously submitted to the CIS with the applicant’s petition.

Translations

All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified translations.

The translation must include a statement signed by the translator that states that the:

Translation is accurate, and

Translator is competent to translate.

personally just to be on the safe side, i'd send it in with a translation. i wouldnt want to get an RFE just for not having the translation of a document

I read that too but that info was the same even before Jan 1. And actually this supports the change since it states "or in the official language of the country in which the application for a visa is being made" In Peru, the official language is Spanish... so...

The OP is past the service center stage and they don't issue RFE's at the consulate. What they canl say is "your paperwork is not complete, come back when you have everything we need."

Make sure they said that you dont need to translate the documentation versus you dont need an "official" translation of the documentation. Is different. For K1 VISA the documentation need to be translated by any person capable to do it. He/She just need to add a document with this name and identification number .. etc. This person doesn't need to be an "official" translator.

In my case, my mom did it ... I could have done it too ...
