... in an interview with a book author in the Oval Office one day last December, [bush] daydreamed about the next phase of his life, when his time will be his own.

First, Mr. Bush said, "I’ll give some speeches, just to replenish the ol’ coffers." With assets that have been estimated as high as nearly $21 million, Mr. Bush added, "I don’t know what my dad gets — it’s more than 50-75" thousand dollars a speech, and "Clinton’s making a lot of money."

Then he said, "We’ll have a nice place in Dallas," where he will be running what he called "a fantastic Freedom Institute" promoting democracy around the world. But he added, "I can just envision getting in the car, getting bored, going down to the ranch."

The Dems dropped the ball imo because it's now two minorities to choose from....if they wanted a stronger chance, they shoulda went with someone else. I know I'll get flamed for this, but that's the way I see it. There was a huge shot for a Dem POTUS with a Dem Congress....and I think the door is left wiiiiiiide open for the Repubs to storm it because of who the other options are.

And really, after 8 years of hearin anti-GWB #######, this COULD have been a cakewalk for the Dems. But I don't think it's gonna be that easy...for either of em.

Wow, I think that's what I love the most about my party! We are much more willing to judge a man or woman on their character and not their gender or color! We were the first party that nominated a Catholic man for the Oval office and guess what...he won!

Look at poor Mitt Romney...just because he's Mormon ya'll threw him out with the Baby's bath water! Ya'll can stay in the 18th century with your party's 'Protestant White Male' only need apply attitudes...but we are moving forward into the 21st Century!

Bless-ed,

Gill

Oh please, if you think any of this is about character, you're sadly mistaken. I hold to the assertion that all politicians are b@stards who screw the little guy...lolz. As far as electability (is that even a word? lolz) goes, the Dems chose the wrong time for the minority ticket BECAUSE it IMO took away the inevitability of a Dem POTUS. Which I am happy about, mind you because I'm not a Dem.

I never said a minority couldn't do the job because (s)he's a minority...or implied in any way that somehow that person would be deficient....

Lisa, a time when it could have been a cakewalk into the White House seems to me the best time possible to present minority candidates.

I totally disagree. I think the Dems already lost the election. Of course, I could be wrong, but right now, that's the way I feel.

I don't think you are on target with Lisa.

You're right

dev, the political elite inhabit an entirely different universe than you or I. They can make money with skills that would land you or I on the unemployment line.

yes, but has a pres had such a low approval rating leaving the WH before????

Carter left office with 34% approval numbers. Nixon left with 24%.

http://www.parapundit.com/archives/003403.html

Latest on Bush is between 30 and 37% approval.

Yet again we get the option of spit or swallow. Either way, you'll be left with a nasty taste in your mouth.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

In a modest town where honest people dwell

"For Love of Politics: The Clintons in the White House" by Sally Bedell Smith:

"Bill was 46 years old when he entered the White House, and Hillary was 45. They declared themselves the baby-boomer version of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, but the way they operated was more akin to John F Kennedy and his brother Bobby, who served as attorney-general and operated as a de facto vice-president while serving as the president’s eyes and ears and closest adviser."

Umm, I think it's been said many a time that JFK was going to have an uphill battle for relection.....Something about pigs, and some missle crisis.......

Bill and Hillary, but mostly Bill of course was asleep at the helm whilst the rest of the world made war on us. What did he call it? Oh yes, the "peace dividend"....

Bush inherited the geopolitical mess that the Clintons left behind.

It's scary the way we chose leaders!

indeed - case & point - the last 7 years.

I am no fan of GWB, but he was a successful governor of a state for 2 terms giving him experience in an executive government position. IMO his record as president has not been stellar, but he had an executive record that could be looked at. The USA has a record of choosing former state governors.

Look at Obama's voting record. That's all you got to look at besides the fact that he is a slick talker.

Not much ON that record, either....but hey, he's ready to bring CHANGE based on a few years.

He has the same experience as Hillary does.

And GW BUSH.. He did not have much experiance as a Politician. also in his own Private Oil buseness failed at everyone of them and had to have Poppa bail him out which was the Saudi Goverment

It shows the ignorance of the public who's voted for him, imo. I mean, a newb running for Prez? lolz The Dems really dropped the ball with their stable of choices this go round. Hell, if Al Gore ran, I'd be worried

Some of us are tired of career politicians who are completely out of touch with the real people. I will vote for Obama BECAUSE of his lack of experience.

Every horrible president we've had has been "experienced"....

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

That's true - all McCain and Clinton appear to offer is more of the same, so betting on an outsider might be the way to effect real change. Still a risky choice, nonetheless and an uphill battle for him.
