Hey I'm new to this site and I have few questions. First of all, I am a US citizen and my fiance lives in Poland. I am planning on bringing her to US as soon as she finishes school in June. All I know as of now is that I need to write a petition for her and send a check for $450. Can someone tell me what other documents do I need to send with my application? Do I need to send some of her documents as well? One more questions, is it really better to let some agency or law firm do all the paper work for me or is it easy enough so I can do it on my own? If I send the application in March is it possible that she will get her fiance visa be September? Thanks for all the help, I will try to get familiar with the website and all the info that is available. I just need some tips how to start the entire process. Thanks again

Here's a link for you to aswer some of your questions: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1guide

You don't really need to use an agency or law firm. Just hang out here and post your queries and people will be happy to help you. A lot of us made it successfully without using an immigration lawyer especially if your case is not that complicated.

Good luck!

Hello and welcome to VJ :)

First I suggest you look at the K1 Visa Guide. That will answer a lot of your questions about what you need to file the petition. It will also give you a better idea of what is involved in filing the petition and whether you think you can handle it yourself. As long as your case is straightforward you should not have any problems doing it on your own.

Next, I suggest you look at the timelines for your service center and consulate. Filing in March and final visa approval in September would be pushing it since it is taking about 4 months to get the petiton approved. I think a better estimate would be 8-9 months for the entire process.

Doing it yourself is quite doable if you're willing to go back to "school" for a little while. Start with the guides but also study the instructions for the forms you'll be dealing with. You'll still have many specific question and we're here to answer them. If you don't do the study, you won't know what questions to ask.

First of all I would like to correct you the charge is $455.00 not $450.00

I would be the first to admit that I did all the paperwork on my own by reading the guides and following directions on this site.

Unfortunately I still don't know how successful I am in filing since I filed on February 5th and I haven't even received NOA1 yet :crying: !

But YES you can do it on your own!

Def. read the guides up at the top of the site page. They have a nice list of what to send etc. If I were you, I'd file now since if things go very quickly, you can always take longer to submit the packet of info to the embassy and once your fiance is issued the K1 visa, you have 6 months in which to use it.

Igor, I wouldn't stress about the NOA1, its not even been 10 days! Last year when we filed and they weren't backed up, it took us 10 days to get the NOA1.

It took at least a month for our NOA to arrive in the mail but that was understandable since we filed along with millions of applicants trying to beat the deadline for the fee hikes to take effect.
