We are probably having the celebratory ceremony (for friends and family) after our civil ceremony (for immigration purposes)...I'm no good at planning for a moving target date...and, as I have read, USCIS is not very predictable!!!

Just adding my two cents, as my fiancé just literally had his interview at the Dutch Consulate today (approved btw :)). The Dutch Consulate is pretty fast with processing Packages 3 and 4 in my opinion.

We knew going in that it would be a lengthy process and figured on sometime in May/June, so we wouldn't get our hopes up if something went wrong. We started unoffically planning after we got package 4, just to make sure we got a nice wedding site, etc, but I haven't done anything as of yet (I will start soon though!) that was non-refundable or that couldn't be changed.

I think the only reason our interview was so far after package 4 is because the Consulate called him and asked him what his plans were, and he said he wanted to come over in late March/ early April because he has a few things to take care of between now and then. They told him "Since it's so far away... yada yada yada.. your interview will be 2/11".

I'm going to talk with him when I get home and try to get a review of the Consulate out of him for the site.

Hope this helps!

249 days? Ours took 246, so you might just be pushing it. I might book certain things that you can put down a deposit on just to reserve them, but I certainly would not pay full out for anything yet. Before I knew he had his visa the only things I booked were the hall where we plan to marry and I got my wedding dress. Now that I know he has the visa in hand, I'm busily booking everything else. Good luck and I hope things go quickly and smoothly for you so you can still have your wedding on your planned date.

Jennifer :)

You can set a target date but I would not put any deposits down or make any non-refundable wedding-related purchases (including airfare) until you know for sure.

I filed my petition nearly a month ago with 300 days until my wedding date in November. Yes I'm taking chances but as some have advised here, see if you can place refundable deposits and/or apply any deposits you do make to a future date if it needs to be moved. Once we get NOA2 I'll be in business with the rest of the details, but to date we have only reserved the ceremony site.
