My sweetheart and I have known each other for eight years - she is American, I am Dutch. We met during my 4-year studies in the States. A little over a year ago, we fell in love with each other (again). In December of 2007 we got engaged. We are sending the petition this week and have the wedding planned for the 17th of October.

The BIG question now is the following: WILL WE HAVE ENOUGH TIME? We need to set a date because my family lives both in Holland and Australia and her family lives in both Florida and Puerto Rico. Can somebody tell me it's going to be ok - we should have more than enough time? 249 days left!

Hi! you need to send your petition asap just to make sure, usually k1 visa process takes about 6 to 8 months sometimes it takes even longer,it depends on your service center and also before u submit your documents to uscis

triple check them to avoid any RFE's in the future!

Best of Luck!

To be candid - I think you're pushing it (with the Oct wedding date) - I'd be a nervous wreck by the time October rolled around

You *should* have enough time. Going by other people's timelines then there is a possibility that you will make that date. However, as this is immigration, there is no clear cut answer and certainly NO guarantees. There are people who filed in May, June and July who are still awaiting their NOA2s, therefore their process is going to be above and beyond the 249 days window that you have. Its all case specific therefore it will be impossible to say whether or not you will make that date until you actually have the physical visa in your hand. No one will be able to tell you for definite whether or not this will be possible, thus this is the reason why people are advised not to make any definite plans until they have their visa.

Here's to give you an idea: http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/stats.php?cfl=

VSC is known for speedy processing so you're probably in good shape but dealing with Immigration, nobody knows for sure what's in store for you so make sure to plan things without putting pressure on you and your fiancee.

Good luck!

While it may seem like enough time, you never know what little quirks USCIS will throw your way that wpill delay your petition.

It is true that VSC is a little faster than CSC right now, but there are still people waiting 4-6 months to get their petitions approved. There are no guarantees with this process. It may take longer or shorter than you think.

Just be flexible with your plans in case things don't turn out the way you want (not saying that they won't, but you never know).

Good luck!!!

I think October is probably not going to work for you. A target date in December would be wiser but even then I wouldn't make any large non-refundable deposits for wedding services or facilities and would suggest the traveling guests no purchase their tickets until you have the visa in hand.

A Warning to Green Card Holders About Voting

Also being a Dutch filer, my main worry is that the Amsterdam Consulate adds some 50 odd days to the tally from Packet 3 till the Interview... so you have to keep that time in mind as well.

Great for you but the time-lines have changed drastically in the past year.

I suggest NEVER making concrete wedding plans until you have the visa in hand. So many things happen that are unexpected and time consuming.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

You can NEVER tell how long it might take.

Not even the timeline can garantee that you will be approved by then.

Sorry for being so pessimistic but rather pessimistic than organize everything and things get delayed...

Good luck!
