The scummiest 'gift' I got was no gift at all... some of my aunts (who we were theoretically close to) decided that they didn't 'need' to give me a wedding gift at all because I wasn't getting married in Australia... which would have been okay by me, except that the last social event I had to go to (two days before I left) was my cousin's 'newlywed' party and they didn't hesistate to give them gifts...

In fact, after I left, said aunt said she 'didn't know' I was getting married or leaving the country. What did she expect? An engraved notice? Grrrr...

But the sweetest gift came from a family friend who gave me $200 to help me with moving expenses... it meant so much to have somebody who didn't have to do anything for me acknowledge my relationship and act as though the engagement was 'real', when my own relatives wouldn't give me that courtesy.

And when we got married John's sisters couldn't come because their husbands had both just had operations, and we couldn't delay the wedding long enough for them to be there (stupid ninety days)... but they threw us a wedding party three months later and got John's whole family to come, and it was so sweet...

Well so far we haven't gotten married yet (23 days! OMG that's soon...I hadn't counted it before) but I've gotten a few gifts. I'd say so far his grandmother buying us all of our dishes (8 place settings from Pottery Barn!) and nice silverware tops the list, plus the oodles of money people in the UK are giving James. Too bad my dishes are too big for my cabinets :(

Bridal shower is on May 6th, I can't wait to see what kind of stuff we get! :D I like gifts :)

The coolest gift we received was from my in-laws best friends (who I barely knew at that point). They wrapped up a beautiful salad bowl. When we opened up the box, we found that they had made a "salad" out of crumpled money!

Well - we didn't really have a big wedding so we didn't really get many gifts. We got a few hundred from my mom and grandma though...

Dave's mom's gift to us was to pay off one of his credit cards... but she never did! ha. oh well.

I don't think we had a bad gift, mostly was money and a few cute things for the house. Something I don't like, which is actually a nice gift, is the really fancy picture frames for weddings. I got a couple of those and don't use them! But they were nice gifts even though I didn't like them. I'm sure one of them was pricey but I just can't seem to put them up around the house, not my style.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

We didn't request gifts since we didn't need anything, but people feel like they should give anyway.

We got several gift cards to Bed, Bath, Beyond, Target and resturants. Some money and that was great!

My best gift of all though was a framed photo of the Aspens on Mt. Lemmon taken in 1997 by one of my hiking club friends. He took it on a hike that I had guided, and had the photo hanging in his salon for almost 9 years. Those Aspens burned in 03 in our big fire so the photo was very special to recieve. I started crying and gave him a big hug.

The most not useful gift was a crystal plate, but I am going to regift that to my co-worker who is getting married next month. Shhh Don't tell.
