Just wanted to share our experience of the K1 VISA process. This is a great forum and everyone is great at trying to help everyone else. Although I haven't contributed much but have picked up a few things by reading the posts. Thank You Everyone.

---Interview Experience---

We arrived there fairly early. I had gone from the US to be with my fiance, wasn't really sure if they'd let me into the embassy but was worth a try. Our interview was at 8:00 am and they started letting us form the line outside the embassy around 7:30. I was allowed in without any issues. I told them that I am the petitioner and showed my US passport.

There were two interviews, the first one was by an Indian person and the second one was by an American one. I did not accompany my fiance to the actual interview but was waiting in the seating area and was able to see her during her interview. I will try my best to recall the questions as my fiance told me.

1st interview (around 8:30am)

1. Is this your first marriage?

Gave the 156K form to fill out (but not sign)

Handed all the proof of relationships & original docs back that were submitted via VFS

2nd interview (around 10:00am)

Took finger prints

Asked to sign the form

Gave the oath (of saying the truth and nothing but the truth, the American person actually said this in hindi)

1. What does your fiance do?

2. Why do you want to get married in the US?

3. What do you do currently?

More questions about fiance's job in India

4. How did you first meet?

5. How was the meeting arranged?

6. How many times did you meet before your engagement?

Visa Approved.

Visa in hand the following Monday (3 business days later) from the Blue Dart office. When asked if we could get the visa in the embassy in the evening, they said only VFS can help.

Flew back with fiance on Feb 1st. The POE was very smooth. No questions were asked, my fiance was taken to another area where they process all visas, the officer just informed that we had 90 days in which to get married and that was it. Everything was smooth except the airline lost one of our bags :(

Marriage scheduled with the court on Feb 14th. We didn't file for my fiance's SSN as the courts told us that it is not required as long as I have a valid one. Will file for the remaining paperwork afterwards. Will look to this portal for help again :)

Congrats to both of you!  I hope they find your lost bag.

It would be good to just drop into a SSN office early next week (before 14th) and apply for the SSN, the name will be in the system then and it can avoid a hassle later (if you delay applying for SSN, then they will refuse to let you apply for it until the green card arrives, that could be three or more months!).

Come early for your court wedding on the 14th, it is one of the most popular days of the year to get married and I hear people wait in lines for hours!

Thank you very much for everyone's wishes. you are a very supportive bunch.

for people who are waiting for their interview and are feeling v nervous, I do want to mention that we were very very nervous and scared and have spent a sleepless night or two. we tried to cover all possible scenarioes and questions. we actually carried about 10kgs worth of additional documentation with us for the interview.

most of all its the wait that gets to you. eventually you just want to do the interview and get it over. at the embassy I wasn't that nervous but my fiancé was but it went fairly smoothly and we didn't even have to take out a single piece of paper from our 10kg bag. my fiancé said that it almost felt like they had already made their decision beforehand.

so please even if you are nervous and scared, just be prepared and believe that you will get the visa. I truly wish the best for everyone on this forum and hope that people get united with their loved ones soon and without hassles.

Thank you v. much for your suggestions ELW. I will go for the SSN right after the marriage then, this way we don't have to go there again for a name change. Hopefully we wont have to wait for hours, the city mayor is doing our ceremony and apparently there are only 4 that day that he is doing. (of course i had to pay a donation so its not really free :)
