now that my husband has finally recieved his welcome/approval/card ordered letters for his aos after 3 long years of waiting i have some questions. i know its very early since he has to wait 3 more years to naturalize but i might need to start now educating myself.

1. will we still need to be saving proof of marriege stuff?

2. of couse as soon as the green card gets here we want to give it a try and go to canada. we will probably be entering on the rainbow bridge or one of those near niagra falls, do we just drive into any line and show passport and greencard or will we have to go into a certain line and then go into the building?

3. coming back into the united states do we have to stop at immigration or just drive up to the booth and answer their "how long were u in canada questions?

4. when can he file for citizenship? on his 3rd year anniversary of permanent status or 3-6 months before like ead and ap?

5. if he travels home for a few weeks of vacation every year does he have to subtract that time off of his n-400 application?

6. do they interview me again at the interview just to be sure we are still married like we did at the aos interview?

7. if we got stuck with fbi namecheck for the aos what are the odds we will get stuck again at naturaltion time?

8. are there alot of things we will need to send with his n400 application?

ok ive babbled on alot so ill finish now. ive been stuck so long at the aos level that i never imagained i would ever get to this point. just want to think ahead for when the citizenship comes and be prepared.

As far as I know:

1. will we still need to be saving proof of marriege stuff?

-You will need your marriage cert, 3 years of tax return transcript or 3 years of bank statement with both your names on it.

2. of couse as soon as the green card gets here we want to give it a try and go to canada. we will probably be entering on the rainbow bridge or one of those near niagra falls, do we just drive into any line and show passport and greencard or will we have to go into a certain line and then go into the building?

-never been through that route, but when I went to Vancouver from Seattle, you drive into ANY line and show passport/greencard.

3. coming back into the united states do we have to stop at immigration or just drive up to the booth and answer their "how long were u in canada questions?

-NO, just drive up to ANY line and show your greencard.

4. when can he file for citizenship? on his 3rd year anniversary of permanent status or 3-6 months before like ead and ap?

-2 years and 9 months after your date shown in your green card

5. if he travels home for a few weeks of vacation every year does he have to subtract that time off of his n-400 application?

-I have checked with a lawyer and the answer is NO. Just make sure you don't leave the country more than 6 months. (Although in the form there's a question about how many days you're away from the country)

6. do they interview me again at the interview just to be sure we are still married like we did at the aos interview?

-NO. You don't have to show up in the interview

7. if we got stuck with fbi namecheck for the aos what are the odds we will get stuck again at naturaltion time?

-I am not sure

8. are there alot of things we will need to send with his n400 application?

-copy of marriage cert

-copy of spouse's passport

-copy of the GC

-last 3 years of tax transcript/bank statement showing both your names on it

-if you have children, their birth cert.
