In think what Saturday Night Live did to her was far worse! Can you imagine being a teenage girl facing your friends after these yahoos, under the guise of "comedy", do a sketch about how ugly you are?

In the last hour, due to a public outcry, they pulled the audio, but not the video.....Tasteless to say the least.

McCain's joke was probably hilarious because, well, he's just that kind'a guy <wink>.

I don't think she's butt ugly. But if she is I fail to see what the hell it has to do with anything, or why she should be judged for it, or why anyone (especially someone meant to be you know, the best of our stock and good enough to lead the country) should care, or where people get off being complete jerk-offs sometime, etc etc. And I'm sure that yes it's totally 'true' that Janet Reno is actually biologically literally her father. Age aside, being "mean" to someone or making a joke about somebody based on looks is one of the crassest, most idiotic and immature things you can do; it's a cheap-shot power play suggesting you're better and dominating and cooler because you look better (McCain may be ugly now but he was a looker when he was younger = a-hole mean jock?), and that the other person should freely be a doormat. I don't really want a hierarchy in the country based on looks. I don't really understand how someone even gets off noticing how ugly someone else is, how it even enters your brain this far cognitively. I'm sure Chelsea's crushed that she's not been dubbed adequate eye candy for 70 year old men.

Guess she'll have to react and go join the militant feminists her mom hangs out with and then be castigated for loads of OTHER immature and equally shallow reasons.

This is politics. Anything goes (apparently). The more airtime this issue gets, the more it stays in play. I'm sure its hard for Chelsea to hear that she isn't considered beautiful by some, but equally, its a tactic to rile her parents. I'm sure McCain has nothing against Chelsea, but he probably enjoys upsetting Hills and Billy. McCain is no beauty queen of which I'm sure he is aware. The more attention he gets from the press, the better for him.

Calling a woman 'ugly' is what men(and other women) do to a woman when they want to feel bigger and better than her and can't think of anything else to criticize her about. It's like comedians resorting to fart jokes when they run out of material. 'Fat' is a variation on the same tired theme.

Unfortunately we largely do have a heirarchy based on looks, at least for women. When you are called 'ugly' your whole life and passed over by men your self-esteem crumbles and you feel like you should not even try for anything. You end up working in low-paying back-office type jobs because you feel you are not good enough to be out front and visible. I speak from personal experience. Someone like Janet Reno could have a lot of power but why does it matter when in the end she is the butt of jokes like this. A man can be almost dead(like McCain) bald, overweight(to a point) and his looks will not even be mentioned, but let a woman not get enough sleep one night and she will be called 'haggard'. It's a nasty double standard designed to keep women out of public office I think.

See - this is where McCain makes Clinton's "likability" factor less of a handicap, should she be the Democratic candidate. This guy is not known for his charm and tact.

I do remember the Saturday night sketch - it was MUCH worse and was done when Cheslea was only 13.

And of course, all those calling Chelsea "fugly" often get mistaken for Brad Pitt and George Clooney!
