Vegas weekend trip- Hotel/Airfare $1500-2800

Well, I've been online for the past few hours looking at airfares/hotels for a weekend jaunt to Vegas.

The last time I was in Vegas was around 1998'ish on a labor day weekend. I stayed at the Aladdin Hotel, in the tower, for $150/night.....A holiday weekend mind you!

The price I'm looking at now is around $400/night! Are they fcuking insane? I thought the idea was to give the rooms out on the cheap so that you can drop big bucks in the Casino's.....

Anyways, I'm totally frustrated with trying to plan this trip. $2000 for a couple nights in Vegas before ever dropping a dollar into a slot machine is clearly insane......I had no idea that Vegas had become such a rip-off!

My observations so far have been this: Tuesday-Thursdays the hotel/airfare is half of what it is on Friday-Monday, and Tuesday-Thursday pricing isn't great either....

Guess I'll be staying home.

yeah, it pretty much stinks. Airfares have skyrocketed lately and from what the news said the other night, they're only going up. Craig goes to England tonight, and the fare was 200.00more than it was a month ago already. I know we're going into Spring now, but sheesh! M.

Which hotels are you looking to stay at?

There's usually some pretty good deals out there - try a different weekend perhaps.

My wife and I flew to NY from LAX the other weekend (we had to book the trip last minute) - cost us about $900 just for the flight.

Have you tried calling the Las Vegas Tourist Info people?

They are excellent and will look around for rooms for you - last time I was there (and we are talking 1990's here!) I got a room in a casino (NOT on the strip but not far from it - I forget the name but it had a train as its logo..something station) and it was around $25 for the ROOM - there were 3 of us - we snuck person #3 up the backstairs cos it was only sposed to be for 2 people.

I would book my flight and rooms seperately - and try the Tourist Info ppl for sure. They tried everywhere for us (we were standing right in front of them at the time, lol); almost got us into Circus Circus but as they were trying to secure the rooms someone else got to it first!

we are planning a trip in august and the cheapest hotel I saw was $443 for a week and the most expensive I looked at was $716 pw.....but, yeh, the airfares suck big time....

That's strange. I have just done an Expedia search for a Friday to Monday Mid May out of Chicago (Your local POE?) and found flights plus the MGM Grand even at $1,469.35 (3 nights), total. Or staying at the Sahara instead....$1.171, Golden Nugget $978, The Orleans (We've stayed there before...$998....All these including flights and hotel.

I suppose it depends on your dates....but I was searching for Friday 19 May to Monday 22nd.....You might have to be flexible with flight timings/routes/hotels etc....but it can be done for a lot less than $1,500-$2,800.

That is a rip. Look around you can find much better deals, like $30 a night type deals (Sunday thru Thursday)!

Trust me I've been looking and perusing all available sites. I've looked at both seperate air and package deals.

The airfares pretty much double from Friday to Monday. So do the rooms....

Saturn5man- I'll double check but those prices reflect one person's airfare. It's considerably higher (double the airfare) for two persons round trip.

And yes my dates were for this weekend, or the following weekend. You can probably get some better deals way off in advance but even so the Hotel Rooms are outrageous compared to what I used to pay.

I'm accustomed to staying in a major hotel on the strip and that's what I'm looking for.

Well, the best price seems to be in the $1300 range....That's for two nights in Vegas!

I dunno, I need to think about this- $650/night- without doing any gambling....hmmmmm

hmm.. i guess one week makes a difference? my friend is having a las vegas wedding, so a group of us are heading up there. She got the luxor rooms for 160/night (and this was just a week ago). If you lived closer to NV i would suggest greyhound=/. does southwest operate from where you are? I think they were having a flight special.

Hotel rooms on the strip seem to be at a serious premium lately -- I would have got married last weekend, but I couldn't get a room at the last minute! I know co-workers have struggled to get rooms as well, hence the steep price.
