Once approved - after interview

I've heard or read that after the interview, if the visa is approved, it is given out right there. Then I was reading the reviews of the Jamaican Embassy and saw that the visa was mailed out and received a couple weeks later. I am not close to the interview yet but just for sort of planning purposes I wondering what to expect and whether I should be there for the interview. I would like to fly back with my fiance but I probably couldn't hang out for a couple of weeks waiting for the visa to come in the Jamaican mail. What can I expect?

Its to the discression of the embassy. Colombia's Bogota embassy for the longest time allowed the beneficiary to pick up the visa once it was printed (either the afternoon of the interview or the next day).

Now no one can pick up their visas (which sucks! ). Its a new thing that went into effect in December...its now mailed to the address the beneficiary requests on the date of the interview.

This may just be for the Colombian embassy...the best way to clarify would be to call the embassy directly.

My fiance's interview date was December 11, 2007 and approved that day. He didn't receive his visa until January 4, 2008. The visa is sent via Airpak (courier service in Jamaica). I think that the holidays (Christmas and New Year's) had something to do with the length of time.
