Hello,

On the IV Instructions Packet pages I see that they ask for the birth certificates of the beneficiary and also of the spouse and kids under age of 21.

I am the beneficiary..only one to immigrate. Should I send my birth certificate only?

Another question: I had served in our military. They ask for military discharge papers to be sent also.

This and many other documents I am to send to NVC are not in English.

I was a translator in the army. Can I translate these papers? Is there a specific format/way required by the NVC?

I ask these questions to people who know the answers.

While I have never seen a rule stating that you cannot be the one to translate documents, I would recommend you get someone else to do it. The reason for this is that if you do it yourself, there is a risk of an RFE and that will slow down the process.

Don't translate it yourself as you might be questioned. Go to a translator and have it notarized. Remember that you are dealing with the government. So play safe.

As you are required to send both parts I & II of the DS-230 you should also send a copy of the spouse's birth certificate.

for yourself and each family member who will accompany you to the United States. All documents that pertain to your petition are required, even if they were previously submitted to the BCIS with your petition.

The above requirements are general instructions for all documents required to be sent.

Birth certificates

birth record of each family member (yourself, your spouse, and all unmarried children under the age of 21).

The above is requesting birth certificate of you and your spouse.

The two instructions above are seperate in regards to the 'who will be travelling with you'. I am under the category of only having to submit part I and my biographics page of passport, with the remainder to obtain for interview. I will have my husbands birth certificate, as spouse is asked for on Part I and pertains to the petitions. (see 'Document Requirements' All documents that pertain to your petition)

I agree with the others. It may raise questions if you translate yourself. Have someone else translate. They do not have to be translated by a certified translator, only by one that is fluent (conversant) in the language and can certify as to the accuracy of the translation.....
