I love life on mars...however not sure if an american would get a lot of the references for instance the behaviour of the police is so reminiscent of the sweeney - but you would have to see the sweeney to see how very un pc it would be today ... another one for me is shameless....and going back some i also liked red dwarf...

Oh Shameless is just pure viewing pleasure. I get your point about Life on Mars being reminiscent of The Sweeney. The "guv" is really like the "guv" in The Sweeney so Im sure that was deliberate.

Wow this thread! Love Dr Who, I sorta like Torchwood...meh, I dunno...it's ok, but doesn't blow my skirt up.

So many ppl beat me to it about Life on Mars....and yeah, Ashes to Ashes started today I think.

Neener neener, I gots me a slingbox! Nevermind this 'let's show cash in the attic and 2 year old eps of everything else. :P :P :P

OH! LOOOOOOOOOVE shameless! Gotta love Frank G. That is my alltime.fave.show. D and I got into that together when it first came out...it's not the same as watching it alone now, but the show is so fricken funneh.

one of my favourite shows is "One Foot in the Grave" - that show is sooo funny..

i also liked Coupling - it was a dirty version of Friends but it was super funny, except the last season wasn't as funny as the first 3...

We just got the DVDs, only watched 2 episodes so far, I like Doctor Who better but it's okay.

never watched it for more than a few minutes but Neil's mom loves the show

What does OTT mean anyway

I think maybe over the top

Yeah, over the top. They seem to go out of their way to have at least one heavy kissing scene with Captain Jack and a guy in each episode since he "came out". It doesn't really bother me but it does seem to be done as a statement. No matter, I still like the show. BBC TV rocks.

Captain Jack didn't need to come out, the character was first in Doctor Who a few years back and was clearly Bi from the beginning. I don't have any problem with that at all. My hubby is fine with it too but he preferred the episodes when Toshiko explored her Bi side.

Captian Jack was in a Dr Who EP? Really! I didn't know that. I have to admit that I stopped watching Dr Who quite a while back when our PBS station stopped running it.

I have always loved British TV and my latest find is Torchwood. The show is very fun to watch although it does get a little OTT with the bi-sexual stuff. Anyone else here watch it?

maybe that's common in britain.

Maybe. You don't see it much here on TV. GB has always been more open about sexuality on TV. Thats why I always loved Monty Python and Benny Hill. :P

Are you also into Dr. Who and Life on Mars? Hubster also loves/loved those programs.

We watch a number of Brit programs and I have to say the open sexuality sometimes still surprises me because of how relatively puritanical US TV seems. It doesn't bother me, I'm just occasionally still caught off guard by how much skin and language is ok! LOL

I liked the older Dr Who. Tom Baker was the best doctor. I haven't gotten into the new ones yet.

Yup. Tom Baker had a pretty interesting life-story - including a brief stint as a monk.

 I can see him as a monk. I watched a few of the new EP's but I don't really have the time. I may see if netflix has some of them on DVD.

He also played Rasputin - the Mad Monk in a 70's movie. Surely the best casting ever...

People rave about the new Who - but I haven't really gotten into it. Used to love it as a kid, but these days I can't even watch the original show without feeling that I'm past the age where I can enjoy it. I still watch SF - but Who is too "teeny" for me.

Of course now that the BBC is doing well with Who - there's some small hope that we might see a new Blakes Seven (B7 would be perfect for the post 9/11 world).

What gets me about Torchwood is the amount of violence and gore on it. British TV has boobies but they've usually drawn the line at blowing things up and shooting people. Torchwood seems to be a bit more "Americanized" in that respect. It's ok, but I'm not crazy about it.

Ashes to Ashes was BRILLIANT last night! Very pleased with it thus far.

Now THAT would be fantastic! Hubby and I have had a few late night discussions as to how we would cast that revival...

And Oliver = not the best replacement.

I load them a season at a time onto my iPod and watch them while I'm at the gym.

They were talking about bringing it back a few years ago – as a continuation of the original series with Avon (Paul Darrow) being busted out of a maximum security prison. There’s some stuff about it on the net – they abandoned the project over creative differences, so I understand.

Think they ended up doing an audiobook instead.

Yup, he was in quite a few episodes of the Chris Ecclestone Dr Who series. The finale of that series is also the reason why he is now "immortal".

Yup. Tom Baker had a pretty interesting life-story - including a brief stint as a monk.

He also married Romana II in real life (Lalla Ward). Didn't last that long though, about 2 years I think. I remember thinking it was really cool when I was a kid though. :D

Anyhoo, for Tom Baker lovers everywhere, these are skits on Dead Ringers (impressions show in the UK) where a bloke called John Culshaw does a fab impression of him...

Both are really funny, well worth a giggle.
