This may sound stupid but have you tried asking your parents if they have the original records?

I was born in '78 and unfortunately all of my medical records prior to 1997 were somehow lost by the local health authority! Luckily for me my Mum had kept all of the little vaccination cards they used to give out and I was able to get my new GP to enter the information from these - and I know that in more recent times parents have been given vaccination / development check record books.

Another good way to check for top ups given at school is to get in touch with an old school friend who was in the same year as you - school jabs are done usually over a couple of days, so you could just ask your GP to update your records to match theirs in terms of boosters. I was lucky because I was able to obtain my details from my school, but you just need someone from your year who has the info!

Ahh, you see I thought I'd still need to get the baby shots again if there was no proof I had had then, that's some good news at least!

The only thing a full and complete vaccination record would have benefited me would be the measles jab, as I'm pretty sure that's the only one I've already had that immigration asks for.

I'm pretty sure you only need these:

1) Diptheria, tetanus and pertussis

2) Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids

3) Measles, Mumps and Rubella

4) Polio (inactivated)

Are you sure I will need the Polio one? According to this site (posted in this thread earlier), http://www.panelphysicians.com/Pages/Age6.htm

Polio isn't mentioned.

I believe if you're 18 or older, polio is not required. And 1) and 2) on Mags' list are actually the same, but in slightly different formulations depending on how old you are. (For those who are nosy about such things, check it out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DPT_vaccine) You need one or the other.

They tell you at the medical which ones you need.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Yup, you probably won't need it.

They tell you at the medical which ones you need.

I think the whole point of this was that the OP gets them done beforehand, so they won't incur the rather large costs of the inoculations if done at the medical. ;)

My OH was freaking out tonight with all of the vaccinations that he said that he needs. I have been checking all of the forums etc. and one site says one thing and the other site says something completely different. If he is not aware of what shots that he has had and knows that he's had chicken pox and he's 62 years old - why does he need all of these shots? Or does he? We're just both very confused. Also, isn't the flu shot an option - you don't have to have it do you?

He also said that it is going to cost him 600 pounds! How can he get this done cheaper? I realize that he doesn't have to have them at the medical but where else can he get them?

Thanks for your help!

He should go to his GP to get the vaccinations- there should be no cost for this.

As far as the vaccinations go, here's the relevant link from the embassy: http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/...ccinechart.html. Get him to print this out and take with him to his GP.

If you check the age requirements it looks like he needs the following:

MMR

Tdap (not sure what that is - some tetanus jab or other)

There are two more he needs from that list but they are unavailable in the UK. I'm not sure whether they have to be obtained in the US before AOS (someone else will probably guide you on this) but certainly all the vaccination requirements should be completed by the time he adjusts status.

And the costs for having them done at the embassy medical are here>>>http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/iv/vaccfees.html

I think he dreamed the £600 thing. Unless he added all those fees up!

Not sure he even needs the MMR - it says born in 1957 or later

The nurse said I didn't really need vaccinations right now as it was a K1 visa, but that I could choose to either get them done there at the time, or get them done by a GP and take the proof to my visa interview (or was it to the states?). It's only 4 vaccinations. I don't even know what as they gave me bigger problems to worry about.

Yeah, the US embassy in London website states the vaccinations are not needed for K1 until AOS but I think the general view here is that it's better to get them done while still here in the UK. I believe they can get expensive if you wait until in the US. If you get them done at your GP ask for proof (vaccination record), and take them with you to the visa interview anyway. You will definitely need the proof to take with you to the states for AOS.

Sorry to hear that the medical threw up some other problems. I hope it is something you can get resolved easily.

Thanks for clearing that up. I've heard of Dtp, didn't make the association with Tdap :P

The P in DTP stands for pertussis which is whooping cough not polio

The polio vaccine is known as IPV
