Has anyone considered that all these predictions for 2012 may be wrong, and that they miscalculated the year? What if it is 2009 for instance? That absolutely shafts me for lifting conditions.

Actually, the Mayan calender is very interesting and it doesn't require these doom gloom scenarios to make it so. John Major Jenkins seems to suggest that the Mayan's predicted a rare galactic alignment which is pretty extraordinary. However, this alignment doesn't appear to have any special significance in earthly terms, rather like eclipses, fascinating but they have no effect other than a light show.
