Trying to do Income Tax in the USA

Can only help with the process of filing income taxes? They told me today that we can not file a joint return. The reason givin was because my husband is still not a permanent resident yet. We are still going thru the immigration process. I am getting really upset with all of it. He lives here with me and we are legally married. We were married last Aug. Or could someone give me a name of someone in northern California who does these kind of taxes?

There is no 'this type of taxes' it is simply filing married filing joint. The non U.S. spouse will have to file a W-7 and submit the valid required documentation along with the return in order to obtain a Tax ID number, since I am assuming they do not have a SSN yet. You will not be able to file electronically without both spouses having a SSN, but you can file your returns hard copy. If you elect to file jointly, both spouse will have to report world-wide income, but the Canadian income is excluded up to ~$60k. You can also file married filing separately, the option is yours.

I was married to my US husband in July 05. We did joint taxes. Since they were too much of a headache we used a specialist in Canadian/US taxes. I think the guy's name is Serbinsky, if you search this forum you'll find the links. Other people here have used him. Email, phone and mail - no personal face to face. It was only a few hundred dollars and well worth the cost for less effort than doing it ourselves and peace of mind.
