I was never a fan of Eastenders (or any soap for that matter), but if I ever did have it on the Fowlers annoyed the hell out of me. Pauline who moaned about bloody everything, Arthur who was a totally insipid character in everything he did, Michelle who looked like she'd been slapped around the face with a wet kipper and, of course, Mark who was officially THE most boring person...ever.

That was actually quite an achievement - creating an entire family of characters all of whom were irritating and unpleasant. I know what you mean about Arthur - he looked completely whipped, I guess marrying someone like Pauline would do that to you (I still remember when he had the affair and she threw a television set at him). Even the distant family members are like that too - not forgetting Ian Beale, Pauline's Niece, who was a bitter, simpering, thrice-divorced weakling.

Another exuse for the beeb to make another blue peter show. BBC kids drama does not exist. I remember the adaptions of kids books like toms midnight garden and moondial or something with moon in it amongst others.

Mark Albert Fowler was a fictional character in the popular British BBC soap opera EastEnders. He was originally a semi-regular character played by David Scarboro from 1985-1987, but the role was recast in 1990 and played by Todd Carty when Scarboro committed suicide in 1988.
