I don't think you need anything for before marriage stuff because they want evidence of your married life.

You know, I made a checklist for my fiance of everything that I was sending him, the forms he needed, everything. I think I left it on my work computer but I can post it here in the morning if you want to take a look at it.

(Firstly, note that I had several items notorized or made sure I had certified copies)

To organize my info, here's what I did....I took a 1.5 -inch 3-ring binder.

1. I put our names on the front, and inside I had 3 sections, separated by labeled dividers. In each section, most items were put inside clear sheet protectors.

2. Just inside the front cover, I put a letter of intent that also outlined the sections of the binder exactly as they would be found (sorta like a table of contents)

3. Section 1 was my info (I am the USC).

- I started with my financial info (letter from my employer stating my job title,

pay rate, length of employment, and stating my prospect of continued employment was good).

- Then I included copies of taxes for the last few years, w-2's, etc.

- I included a letter from my bank, stating my current balances and amount of deposits this year

- I included a copy of my bill of sale when I bought my car as well as a copy of my current

registration slip and a copy of my car insurance card (for further proof of my assets). I also included

a printout from the Kelly Blue Book website showing the current value of my car.

- I included a copy of my divorce paperwork, which shows the amount of child support I receive

(this double-dips, because it not only shows my divorce date, but also shows income from child

support)

- I ended with my Affidavit of Support form all filled out and signed

4. Section 2 was for my Aussie's info. I simply put several empty sheet protectors in his section for him to fill in with his own info and forms.

5. Section 3 was for proof of our relationship. I included our son's birth certificate, a copy of my birth certificate, letters and emails to each other, letters of reference from friends and a "photo history". For the photo history, I basically just went to my local copy store and made color copies of about 20 pics of us together over the years, putting 2 per page to save space, and included pics of us together with our newborn son as well.

After I completed the binder, I mailed it off to my Aussie so he could fill his section in with his own info and required forms, and also so he could add a few more letters to our last section. Now it's all ready for him to take to his interview with him, all nice and organized so the consolate will have no troubles finding whatever they are looking for!

I think this should be enough info to "prove" our relationship is valid, as well as enough info to prove my income (which was borderline, so I'm hoping the assets of my car value as well as money in my savings account will make up for it!)

I hope this helps you organize your info!

Here is the checklist I sent my fiance. I actually bought a binder with folders and labeled each folder the same way I split up the checklist. On the front of each binder I wrote a list of documents that are in the binder and I labeled each document I put in the binder.

Since you are doing a K3 you may have some additions/omissions to make.

Hey Zee, I was looking at form 156K and alot doesnt apply to us. It says fiances and it ask a lot of question about intentiont to marry. I guess I will just in case but I dont think it applies to me and my husband. It even ask if he is currently married then how is he able to marry the petitioner.

I know. It makes no sense to me either but if you look at: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/ty...types_2993.html it says:

Applying for a Visa

The embassy or consulate where you, the spouse of an American citizen, will apply for a K-3 visa must be in the country where your marriage took place. Here are the procedures to apply. The embassy or consulate will let you know any additional things to do, such as where you need to go for the required medical examination. During the interview process, an ink-free, digital fingerprint scan will be taken. The following is required:

  • One DS-156K, Nonimmigrant Fiancé(e) Visa Application form....

I work for lawyers so forgive me if I'm starting to think like them..

It isn't that unlike a trial (w/out a jury of course). The interview is the trial and the evidence is what will either hang you or free you.

I probably have too much information but I don't really care. With a two hole punch i punched out the tops of the pages and bound them in a document protector.. (the kind that transcripts from court reporters come in) I have things divided up in several different bound "exhibits". I was told that the Nigerian embassy has a little slot under a glass window to slide the documents under so they had better fit so I divided it up as thin as possible.

~The IMs were approx. 40 pages per IM per day so I copied and pasted each day to word and put it into 4 columns limiting each IM to three pages as a "sample".

~ I also copied and pasted our emails in w/out the columns. All have footnotes added marking the date of the correspondence and in the case of emails it will say "Email.. Lanre to Kathryn or Kathryn to Lanre". Each bound exhibit is divided into months, i.e. April - July 2004, Aug - Dec 2004, Jan - May 2005.. and so on.

~The phone records are all in one group. I did include calling cards that I bought at the gas station because I didn't know any better then (I didn't know about peezy or pingo or onesuite)

~Photos haven't been done yet .. I have time.

~I have a packet of Misc. Information which includes little things like receipts for our wedding rings, a Church bulletin from when I was at church with him, post office receipts from when I shipped him a package for Christmas or whatever.

~Another is postal mail.. all copied and bound as the IMs and Emails are.

~Another is my trips.. plane stubs, copies of my visas, itineraries, luggage tags, etc.

~I will put together a folder of original documents and copies of each including our marriage certificate, our birth certificates and the baby's b/c, my divorce decree etc.

~I will also put together a folder for the AOS including letter from employer, band records, tax transcripts, letter from the court ordering child support and a print out from the child support website showing the list of deposits made and a copy of the docket showing the case between me and my ex.

~Finally a folder for all the documents he needs to bring, police reports, results from medical exam etc.

It is a few thousand pages and it's difficult to carry but I want them to have no excuse to put us in AP.

Wow good tips here. I didnt think of it as a trial but you are right. Thinking of it like that really helps me to see how important the evidence is. I mean if someone found all our evidence on bus stop seat would they be able to easily see that they were reading the intimate thoughts of two people who were really in love and married? I think so. But I want to prints up some more emails. I am afraid to show em all cause me and my husband has some big disagreements through out they years we knew each. We broke up and got back together so many times. Other people who have gone though this ask me what we could possible fight over, over the the phone or emails, cause they really never disagreed or argued. Well, thats not us :D
