You are not extending your current EAD, Chris. Not in any way, shape or form. You are applying for a one-year EAD based on eligibility category C9, not the previous A category which is what the 90-day stamp is.

A replacement document is just that - a duplicate of one previously issued to replace one which has been lost or destroyed. Think of it like a drivers licence - you'd replace one which went through the washing machine, but you have to apply for a new one once it expires.

I know that you're just trying to play with the words, but I think you're onto a losing battle here. The issue for you is not whether you are authorised or not, but whether that unauthorised work will be forgiven. And the answer to that is I don't know, and it's up to you to decide if you're willing to take the chance that the interviewing officer slices it your way or not. (On the bright side, everyone I had to deal with at the So. Po. office was very friendly and professional.)

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

I know I'm not renewing my EAD... I was merely pointing out the vagueness in all of this, and how it would be relatively easy to decide in good faith that you were one class of alien when in fact you were another. If I have a 30" black & white TV and I buy a new 60" color HD TV, I'm replacing my existing TV. You don't have to lose something to replace it...
