I saw a documentary on the family last night on TLC - they built a 7,000 sq. ft. house. They have 17 children! I was shocked though and amazed at how well the family seemed to be doing.

They are members of an evangelical Christian movement called Quiverful, which holds that children are a blessing from God and that husbands and wives should gladly accept all the children they are given.

Couples in the movement also believe that the husband is the head of the household and the wife is submissive to him, while the children are submissive to both. The girls wear long dresses or skirts and tops, while the boys wear slacks and polo shirts.

When the Duggars were married in 1984 (she was 17 and he was 19), they didn’t want children immediately, feeling they could not afford them. After four years, Michelle stopped taking birth control pills to have their first child, then went back on birth control after giving birth.

When she got pregnant anyway only to suffer a miscarriage, which they attribute to the birth control pills, the couple felt that they had taken a child’s life. They prayed for forgiveness and for as many children as God decided to give them.

Inside of a year, Michelle gave birth to the first of their two sets of twins, and she hasn’t stopped since.

Both Duggars are real estate agents, and both also host Bible-based “Financial Freedom Seminars.” They also own commercial properties. From 1999-2002, Jim Bob served in the Arkansas House of Representatives. He lost a bid for the U.S. Senate in 2002.

That family scares the poop out of me.

Oh and all of their children's names start with a "J"

They have had a few documentaries shown on TLC.

I freakin love anything on the duggar family! They're absolutely amazing! So organized and extremely well mannered.

The mother is so happy and soft spoken. Many parents these days with 1-2 kids look miserable yet she has all these children and carries herself so well.

You never heard of them before?

No. I don't watch that much TV and normally we only have the basic channels but for some reason last night I found that we had a bunch more...with so many channels, I didn't know which one deserved my attention.

Yes. Hats off to her, but I do worry about the amount of time that each child gets with their mother and father. I imagine it's got to be hard. I don't think I could remember all of their names.

All of their kids names begin with the letter J...hows that for adding to the confusion?

All the kids seem really well rounded and happy. Plus she home schools them.

The duggars are great but I am a much bigger fan of John and Kate plus 8. :D

Just because people hold some seriously freaky views, it doesn't necessarily mean that they can't function as a family. However, as a model for other people, it just isn't a good one, no matter how you slice it.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

All the kids seem really well rounded and happy. Plus she home schools them.

Just wait till one comes out of the closet or decides they want to marry outside of their faith. Disaster.

This family has cult written all over it.

Not to mention giving birth to 17 children in an already overpopulated earth.

Sorry, there is something strangely eerie about this family.

lol I have actually thought about that.

One of those girls is bound to become the town #######, and one of those boys is bound to be gay.

Stay tuned.

But I do like them a lot, I find them insanely intriguing.

Have a look at their website...HERE

Their house is INSANE!!!

I just love in the pictures how all the women are doing their womanly tasks like cooking, cleaning and ironing while the boys sit around and play pool and chess

They are a very interesting family. I personally cannot imagine having 17 children, but they all seem healthy, smart, and well-adjusted. Good for them.
