UPDATE***

I went back to the SSA office, and I was able to apply for a SSN for my daughter. Again, even with the print-out which she just glanced at, she told me that I could not get the notation removed until I remove conditions or am naturalized. I asked her to read the print out and she said she knows the rules to follow regarding immigrants (she said the notation is so employers, banks etc, know to ask for my perm resident card).

At least I was able to get my daughter one. I was advised that my daughters would also come with the notation on it.

Did you ask for the office manager?

Call me cynical but it sounds like despite the EXCELLENT advice from mdyoung, the office concerned are now digging in their heels and just refusing to go back on what they said before despite evidence that they are just plain WRONG (or perhaps 'mistaken' is a more PC way to put it, lol).

Another thread in here (called tooooo bad) has someone who was denied AOS cos, apprently, they've been told that despite the 'rules' saying K1 people don't need a new medical if its within one year of their previous one, the 'local office ask can ask for whatever they want'.

This, to me, is just INSANE and has echoes here on THIS thread.

Most people going thru this process are going to be too scared of a flat denial at any stage to keep pressing the local SS or USCIS office to adhere to their own guidlines rules and policies, so end up sucking up bad practice - this can't be RIGHT.

I'm so glad that people like mdyoung post here - trying their best to help with good solid advice and quoted regulations - but in the face of the people at the offices being dealt with it just seems like an unscalable mountain :(
