Canceled Checks

I noticed that the USCIS, in the I-129F instructions, now claims to only do EFT (electronic funds transfer) and no longer sends an endorsed check back......instead, they destroy the original check. Yet, from what I read here on VJ, it seems they still do endorse the checks and send them back. What is their current practice? Is everyone still getting their endorsed checks returned to their banks?

Just curious......thanks!

They endorse the checks and send them back.

Maybe they are implementing new procedures and now requesting do EFT, it is easier and faster for them. I work for an accounting department and it is the preferred method of payment.

My check got sent back to the bank, as I was able to see a scan of it online. This seems to be the "norm" from what I've seen on VisaJourney as well. People can pull their case number from the stamp on the back of the check.

Thanks all for your replies! It would be interesting to hear from someone who has filed in the last month or two to see if anything has changed.

I filed in September, but those instructions were in place when I filed too. Also I've seen some posts from recent filers (December/January) who did get their case file numbers from the back of their canceled checks.

Sounds like USCIS meant to start doing it at some point, but for whatever reason never implemented.

By the way, noticed you filed recently, congrats! Drop by the Russia regional forum and check it out. It's a little disorderly, but then you've been to Russia so you should be used to it. :D

Thanks mox. I've been perusing different forums, including Russia regional, and occasionally chipping in. I've been through this before and got alot from VJ several years ago. Life happened, and I find myself going through the same basic process again (with a most wonderful woman!). I'll continue to hang around, offer my thoughts where I think they might help, and be looking for advice and thoughts from others now and then. There are so many people here nowadays, and most of the people posting are getting good (in my opinion) advice from others on the board. Of course, there are also times that I cringe when I see what some say. But, everyone has their own perspective and the right to his/her opinion. Heck, I sure don't profess to know anything as an absolute fact, and others might not think much of what I have to say. And that's okay. Whoa! Kind of got to rambling there...that was a long-winded way of saying thanks!

Cool, hopefully some of us can benefit from your previous experience. Again, welcome!
