Tolstoy syndrome anyone?

Ok, I had to look it up:

Tolstoy syndrome

The behavior of confirmation bias has been named after a quote from Count Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910):

“ "I know that most men, including those at ease with problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept the simplest and most obvious truth if it be such as would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have proudly taught to others, and which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabrics of their life". ”

A related Tolstoy quote is:

“ "The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him."

Cool.

I've said this before....critical thinking should be a required coarse in High School and college.

and then pepper it with religious fundamentalism and you've a got a very large population unable to think for themselves.

Yes, and we should reinstate the draft so that no-loads like you can invest some of your superior knowledge, and lofty leadership skills in the betterment of your country.....and possibly mature some by learning tolerance the hard way, which is the only way for you....

Seems there's plenty of intolerance to do for everybody in that heap of fresh manure that comprises the preceding post.

Rush wasn't even registered to vote during the 1980 and 1984 elections. That's how much he cared about delivering a "true conservative" to office

Yet surprisingly, he carried a huge amount of political weight during key elections in the 90's. He's proof that many who lean to the Right (not all) are like sheep....all it takes is some loudmouth to grab their short attention span.

The same can be said of the other side of the spectrum. I see your fat #######, and raise:

To a degree, yes, but...the concept of liberal (in general) is to be open to change. There are good elements to taking a conservative approach to certain situations in life as there are with a liberal approach. A good leader is one who doesn't adhere to one approach religiously but looks at each situation and decides what approach will work best.

I agree with you entirely. I was just pointing out that it's not just the right wingers that follow like sheep.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

How many years did Limbaugh serve? How about the rest of the chickenhawks in Bush's Administration. Yes, I can see that military service is a prerequisite for Right Wing Nuts to follow a loudmouth like sheep to the slaughter.

Perhaps McCain and Limbaugh could swap war stories--McCain about his POW experience, and Limbaugh about his pilonidal cyst. I'm sure Limbaugh would have been the first grunt on the ground if he hadn't had that pesky problem...
