Translating documents...

I need to translate my fiance's birth certificate, permit of stay and probably a couple of other things along the way...

Any estimates out there of how much translations cost? I'm not even sure where to go to get them... any ideas on that as well? Some of his documents will be in Italian, some will be in Albanian.

(I know that they're not necessarily needed at certain stages of the process... but I want to have everything done, set and organized for further down the road)

Thanks! :star:

I did an internet search and was able to fax copies of documents to the translator who sent me back certified translations. The base rate seemed to be $25 for a non-lengthy document such as the permesso di soggiorno or birth certificate.

Unless a professional translation is required, you could always have a friend who is fluent in english and italian and/or albanian translate the documents and then include at the bottom something along the lines of:

I, _____, certify that the above translation of ______ is accurate and complete. I am fluent in english and ____ and am competent to translate from _____ to english.

sign ______ date

When the time comes when you need a translation, check with the embassy or with USCIS and see if a professional translation is needed. Otherwise, you can save the $$. A friend did my husband's birth certificate for the AOS and we haven't had any problems with it yet.

02/23/08 - Filed for removal of conditions.

Sometime in 2008 - Received 10 year GC. Almost done with USCIS for life inshaAllah! Huzzah!

12/07/08 - Adopted the fuzzy feline love of my life, my Squeaky baby th_catcrazy.gif

02/23/09 - Apply for citizenship

06/15/09 - Citizenship interview

07/15/09 - Citizenship ceremony. Alhamdulilah, the US now has another american muslim!

Maybe you can check with the embassy for the translations. Claudeth went to the German embassy and they referred to the a translator that was acceptable
