Pre-nups for bridesmaids

Bridesmaids may soon be forced to sign contracts agreeing not to put on weight or get pregnant before the wedding.

One in five brides-to-be is so concerned that her bridesmaids might let her down that she would ask them to sign a "pre-nuptial agreement", according to a new poll.

And nearly half said they would sack a bridesmaid who failed to stick to the rules.

The survey of 1,000 women, commissioned by You & Your Wedding magazine, asked women which clauses they would put in their contract.

It found that respondents' biggest gripes were with bridesmaids who put on weight, became pregnant or changed their hairstyles before the big day.

Suggested clauses included one saying bridesmaids should not consume more than 10 units of alcohol or make advances towards "inappropriate male guests" - or the groom.

Many women who had already married reported stories of their bridesmaids letting them down on their big day.

One woman said her maid-of-honour left her dress at a service station on the way to the wedding after deciding she didn't like it, while another revealed a bridesmaid had left 30 invitations unsent in her desk drawer.

Colette Harris, editor of You & Your Wedding magazine, said: "Planning weddings can be a stressful time for brides and while our contract is meant to be tongue-in-cheek, the survey demonstrates that issues with bridesmaids are of concern to many readers.

"Perhaps official contracts are the way forward for brides struggling to keep the peace."

I hate even being asked to be a bridesmaid. It sounds so simple and ends up being such work.

My friends would take me as I am or they would find somebody else. I wouldn't sign that thing.

I was in my friend's wedding a few weeks ago and she didn't ask me to do anything which was quite nice. All I had to do was show up and look hot

Obvs this is totally crazy. On the other hand, I always thought for my wedding, I would let my bridesmaids pick out whatever dress they wanted within a certain color scheme, but would stipulate that my best friend had to go shopping with me, since she had questionable taste. So I guess you don't want some slutty minidress ahead of you down the aisle, but beyond that, those people are there to support you, not as part of the decorations. Luckily I never had a wedding. And unluckily, that friend and I have parted ways.

Yup, wedding industry is a bunch of scam artists, IMO. You won't get me to pay thousands of dollars for a dress I'll wear once, much less for a cake.

That's so ridiculous!

Yikes, I spent 50 Euros on my dress, my future MIL is making our wedding cake, and our entire medieval wedding and feast will cost less than many people seem to pay for dresses. Isn't it about celebrating your love and having your friends and family celebrate with you?

But then again, Bridezillas is a fun show to watch, so without those people, where would my entertainment come from
