SSN for my wife (K-3)

I just checked on the Guides' page that the EAD might take up to 3 months to be issued. Seriously? Does that mean my wife, who entered the US vis a K-3 visa, cannot have a Social Security Number for the next 3-4 months (I included the time it takes to issue an SSN)????? Not having an SSN here is a huge problem. I can't even include my wife in my Insurance without an SSN. She can't go to school without an SSN. She can't apply for an ID/Driver's License without an SSN.

Please tell me that above is incorrect :(

You know I never noticed that. I just changed it in my profile to K-3 as it is the correct status.

Anyway, I will gather all reciepts and then I will create my wife's timeline shortly.

Thanks though

The part about not having a SSN until EAD is granted and that takes about three months is correct. The insurance, school and ID issues will depend on the State and insurance company but you may well find all those can be accomplished without an SSN. What State are you in?

I had no problem with anyone over the lack of an SS card.

I got her insurance, got her as a beneficiary, etc.

I don't know about school- but it seems to me that schools accept foreign exchange students all the time, and that they must have some way of allowing it, at least temporarily.

She won't be able to get a job, probably, without it.
