Men with mutliple wives in UK can now claim extra welfare benefits

Husbands with multiple wives have been given the go-ahead to claim extra welfare benefits following a year-long Government review, The Sunday Telegraph can reveal.

Even though bigamy is a crime in Britain, the decision by ministers means that polygamous marriages can now be recognised formally by the state, so long as the weddings took place in countries where the arrangement is legal.

Income support for all of the wives may be paid directly into the husband's bank account, if the family so choose. Under the deal agreed by ministers, a husband with multiple wives may also be eligible for additional housing benefit and council tax benefit to reflect the larger property needed for his family.

The ruling could cost taxpayers millions of pounds.

While a married man cannot obtain a spouse visa to bring a second wife into Britain, some multiple partners may be able to enter the country via other legal routes such as tourist visas, student visas or work permits.

In addition, officials have identified a potential loophole by which a man can divorce his wife under British law while continuing to live with her as his spouse under Islamic law, and obtain a spouse visa for a foreign woman who he can legally marry.

what makes my blood boil is the fact that he can't even afford to take care of one wife without being a leech on social funds. He needs to get out and get a job which will support his entire batch of women. The UK is now just a dumping ground for people who want a "free" ride in everything. The "free" healthcare system is total rubbish, the government is a weak, frightened, liberal mess, and immigration is out of control. The UK needs to stop its politically correct approach to everything, step up, and stop the madness.

Free in quotations would suggest that it's not really free. Well, of course that is true. It is free at point of use, but all tax payers pay into the system so of course it's not free at all. However, it is available to all regardless of how much tax they have paid or what illness they might have. A rather nice system but not hilarious...unless you find it funny that muslims are somehow taking advantage of the system. I don't see how seeing as they pay taxes the same as the rest of the community but obviously you can seem some irony pertaining to this situation.

So, if you knew this then why ask the question???? It's a socialist system that essentially takes money from the affluent and subsidizes those not so affluent.

Since these men were within the legal bounds of their respective countries when acquiring all these wives....they should be required to stay in those countries and let those govt take care of him and his many wives...since they allowed someone who cant afford more than one wife accumilate a harem. While God does allow more than one wife in the Quran....the first condition is that you can afford it and treat them equally....equal poverty is not what He had in mind I would hope to think.

Yes! Admittedly not very many but there were a couple of very nice lads in my high school.

Treating them equally is the SECOND condition. The first is that they be widowed or orphaned and in need of protection and support. This may be true in some of these cases, but it is rare. Most of these jokers just want young girls to marry, and multiple marriage is done along cultural lines, not Islamic dictates.

If the UK is stupid enough to allow this, they get what they deserve.
