Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton said Sunday she might be willing to garnish the wages of workers who refuse to buy health insurance to achieve coverage for all Americans.

oh so that is what she meant by this:

I'm obviously not a Hillararious supporter but isn't garnishment about the same as forced payroll deductions for SS and Fed Taxes?

I'd think that this crazy "tax" would be indexed to income and those at the low end of the scale would be subsidized by those at the high end. In fact, I'm convinced that the "technical poor" wouldn't pay a nickle.

That's the liberal democratic mantra, isn't it? Take my money that I worked for and give it to the poor.......They deserve it!

Hillary's being exposed as the commie she is.....

I think it does all boil down to this statement from an earlier quote:"Forcing people to buy health insurance instead of making it affordable."

There needs to be a way to make health care affordable and if it means paying a reasonable contribution - which may be picked up by employers in many cases - as part of a taxed base greater project that is different than 'buying health insurance'. Being mandated to buy a private service that is profit based and profit motivated is not in the best public interest.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

If Hillary were a 'commie' she would not put in place any measure that helped private health insurance companies. That makes no sense.

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Please, do you not know what socialism is?

Communism and socialism are not interchangeable. Private insurance would have absolutely no place in a communist society. Your point?

Hillary already tried the communist approach. Now it's free enterprise with mandatory deductions.

Whether it's going to a govenment agency for redistribution or to private industry is irrelevant. The point is that it's mandated!

Just like it is in Canada and England.......No choice, mandated by law....

You really do have a very broad interpretation of what communism is. Regardless social welfare systems, including universal health care, do actually work very well indeed and will continue to do so, regarldess of what particular label you wish to apply to them. Most people actually find it ok to help those who are not so fortunate as themselves if by so doing they don't put themselves in a financially untenable position.

Hmm... the UK system does allow choice. We do have a thriving private sector healthcare system in addition to the NHS.

I mean... Bupa anyone?

Another good response on Democratic Underground:

I, for one, would happily pay a tax for guaranteed single-payer healthcare, but am very much against being forced to purchase insurance from a private corporation that will cut corners and deny claims to pad their bottom line.

Exactly. Garnishing someone's wages to pay for a profit based system would be the worst kind of healthcare system.

Yes it would. Wouldn't be all that much different from the current system - except people will be forced to suck the corporate teat. I think that would be pretty much the worst for people on low/limited incomes.

I think he/she meant no choice whether to opt in or out of paying into the system. I could be wrong.

Well you do have to pay into the NHS - but that doesn't mean the UK doesn't offer anything in the way of "choice", the loss of which seems to throw these capitalist-fundamentalists into a tizzy.

Ah yes, which is strange because I somewhat doubt any of these social health care naysayers are so rich that they can actually make a financially independant choice on health care. It seems likely they are paying into the self same flawed system that we all pay into and woe betide any of us fall foul of the insurance shenanigans that go on all the time leaving sick people stranded in a morass of red tape and poor care.
