To a lesser or greater degree, most people stereotype people from different countries: French are arrogant, Germans are organised, Australians are alcoholics, Swedes are sex-crazed, etc... My wife liked the 'British' accent and sense of humour, but understood that this wasn't standard over the whole of the country.

If you happen to like people from a particular country - based either on their looks or perceived stereotype - then not everyone is going to be comfortable with going to a club where they hang out. Some people are shy and like the anonymity of a computer to chat with people first. I don't see the menu-choosing compariosn.

I was speaking generally as to what kind of comments I've seen on this website alone....I don't buy the 'I need to go overseas cos all American women have no family values' tripe. Or the 'It didn't work out with my first one, so I'll go fetch another' ####### either. (note: both '' statements are paraphrases of things I've heard on here). I don't understand why someone would intentionally go thru this multiple times.

Hang out in the regional forums a bit and you'll see the menu-choosing comparison. I even remember one man with 2 women going over for the 'finals' to see which one he was going to petition.

You don't understand it, yet you make some rather insulting assumptions about why people do it. Perhaps you don't see any "good" reasons to do it, so you assume all the reasons must be "bad'?

I've hung out in the regional forums enough to at least use the phrase 'buying power' I've also read enough trash talk of American women there too. It comes across as very bitter and sad, tbh.

I personally couldn't give a sh!t who ppl marry....Yes, I fell for an Englishman. That doesn't mean I think American men are sh!t. Sure, his accent's sexy, but I wouldn't go thru this for anyone.else.ever.again I cannot understand the benefit to trashtalking all of America's women (who have no family values, mind you, yet this site has tons of women petitioners as well ;)) in the process.

This journey of mine...yes, it's much longer than most, but at the same time, I'm sure it's difficult on each and every one of us. Despite how logically one could look at it and say 'ok, this is only x amt of time, yadda yadda yadda, it doesn't change the fact that there are a lot of nights we're all going to bed alone. Why the hell would anyone choose this? Why not try to find someone locally? As I said, if you like X women.....find that country's 'club' in the city you live in....or get involved in the community. America is made up of the whole world....they're already here! So why is that not good enough, hrmmmmm?

Mind you, I didn't search for an Englishman, that just happened. Now the English are great, don't get me wrong....and I'm sure I could bag an English American here in Orlando if I so chose (if D and I were apart)....but I look for the person first, not the 'traits'

I looked exclusively online because I don't go to school any more ; hate going to bars; I knew no one at work, I cared about, that was available; all my friends were married and knew no single ladies; I don't go to a church; on and on. There was no where to look, that I cared for, but online. I didn't start out looking for a Russian lady. I have nothing against women from anywhere. It just ended up that way.

That is exactly the opposite of what I'm talking about right there!

I suspect it's just the idea of American men and foreign women seeking each other out for marriage that bugs you.

If the American man was honest about his reasons, I have no probs whatsoever. It's still creepy, mind you...but diff strokes, lol.

I met my husband on a website as well -- yes it was a dating website, but at the time, we both were not looking for a relationship, it happily found us.

I can understand why people view the way we met with skepticism. However, I don't care 'cause I found the love of my life. :)

Personally, I don't understand people who date but are not looking for a relationship.

Ok, well, maybe if you are just looking for strings free sex or someone to buy you dinner.

Well, there you have it! I guess I'll go home and tell my wife our marriage is DOOMED because we didn't meet in the approved fashion!

Oh noes, I wasn't aware it was 1950 & I was supposed to get married straight out of high school! God forbid I think about college...and kids, well, I'm a dried up prune by now....

Not saying people ought to do any particular thing.

I just thought dating was a courtship ritual.

You can go out with guys and have fun. It's OK if you do that. It's not dating though, in my book.

I would hope that the guy isn't buying you dinner though, if you are just being friends.

You do not see dating as a part of courtship?

Yikes!

Would you care to expand on what else I'm doing wrong? You clearly have visions of how a wifey should be...

At the end of my last date with an American woman (this was our first and last date):

ME: "Do you think you would you be interested in seeing me again?"

HER: "No, I don't think so."

ME: "So, I guess you don't think there's any chemistry with us, right?"

HER: "Oh, I think we have chemistry, I just think I'll fall in love with someone else."

:help:

I'm not making this up, I swear this was the actual conversation, word for word.

I believe it. I'll also tell you similarly absurd conversations can (and in my case, have) occurred with non-American women. It's not an American thing, it's a woman thing ;)

Very true my friend

Speaking of Soulmates, I was just reading that only 5% of marriages will make it to their 50th anniversary. Scaaaary!

Saludos,

Caro

i don't plan on being in that 5%

You never know, you might live til you're in your 90s.

Unless Nessa 'accidentally' pushes his wheelchair off a cliff.

no cliffs around here. :D

Please!

Back before I was with my husband, back in the dark ages, I went out with a group of friends - one of them, a man, offered to walk me home. I invited said man in for coffee. He drank this coffee, we chatted, he went home - very cordial. The next time I saw him he was very cold. I asked our mutual friend what his deal was. I was told he "wasn't ready for a serious commitment". #######? I have coffee with this dude (who I was not even interested in) and he thinks I'm picking out china patterns and setting my pot to boil while I go back to the rabbit hatch?

Men are even more weird.
