Sorry, I'm not bitter about anything and I don't need an excuse. I am very happy, actually happier than any other time in my life. I don't think anyone here said that all American men or women are all the same, but there certainly are some social and cultural differences between people in different countries.

I'm too tired to get into a fight and I'm not picking any sides (are there any?), but I agree with this part.

Taking this as a given, then, is there anything wrong with preferring the cultural and social characteristics that are more typical of a particular country than they are of your own?

I don't see anything wrong with it unless a person doing so then makes a lot of assumptions about his/her potential spouse without finding out whether those characteristics ring true for that particular foreigner.

Erm, so she either has kids or doesn't want kids.....ok

She has a career she cares about....good for her! How else is she supposed to care for herself and those kids of hers?

I just find it so funny....if the 40 year old DIDN'T have a job, she'd be a loser...now she's too career minded

I'm going to stop this conversation because you guys proved my point for me...it's not the women...it's your feeling of 'I'm a shmuck or below average schmuck and no one I tried with will have me'

hence=more buying power elsewhere.

Which is what I said yonks ago.

Can someone give me the CliffsNotes on this thread?

post 321 sums it up nicely.

oh really? so whats that say for the woman w/ a foreign spouse?

So American men are immature until they are 40? No wonder the ladies here went abroad to find love!

This is precisely why so many American women(esp. if they are your 'just average' counterparts looks- or money-wise) end up in their late 30s - early 40s unmarried and possibly too old to have kids, after being given the 'I'm not ready to marry but I'd love to hang out with you for the next 2-5 years' speech too many times.

I suspect there are an equal number of men and women sitting alone on a saturday night having similar thoughts about the opposite sex. Perhaps the title of the thread aluding to "soul mate" is part of the problem. Neither side wants to "settle" because they are looking for a prince or a princess or a "soul mate." Because the expectations are so high for each side, many end-up being alone since the allusive "mr. or mrs. perfect" simply doesn't exist.

I see that the circle-jerk continues.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

In a modest town where honest people dwell

--July 22---------Sent I-129F packet

--July 27---------Petition received

--August 28------NOA1 issued

--August 31------Arrived in Terrace after lots of flight delays to spend Lindsay's birthday with her

Apparently that's not acceptable behavior according to some people.
