My fiancée found a small lump in her breast. she has gone to her doctor and they have determined it is just a benign cyst. will this throw up and issues at the SLEC exam? should she have it excised in advance to avoid any delays, or issues?

Cysts are very common. Unless her doctor told her to have it removed, there should be no reason to, and it shouldn't interfere with the process. She should just keep an eye out for any changes, and Donna A suggested foods to avoid. BTW, kudos to her for doing the self-exam and getting it checked out!

It is not contagious so she should be okay during the medical exam. Removing a lump can be done under local anesthesia and with your timeline she has enough time to have it removed if necessary.

Thank you all such much for the info. we would be so lost without this forum. our concern was knowing the SLEC, from what we read here, it seems anything seems to send a flag up. we know she will have to undergo a sputum test, old TB issue's. Were just hoping they wouldn't say at that point get get it excised. we both know its nothing, as also said, many women have them. our concern was the SLEC would want it removed to pass her. thank you all for the help

She doesn't have to undergo a sputum test if her xray is good. I for one didn't have to during my medical.

thank you, she does have a spot that shows on the xray. she goes to her doctor yearly to have the xrays compared. it would be great if we could avoid the wait for the culture. it has got her scared because she doesn't know how to cough up the sample. i have tried telling how but to no avail. she just can never bring anything up.

and yes we we lucky enough to have our first meeting caught on tape. it is one of the things that keeps me going i get to see her for the first time over and over every day.

A lump in the breast will not really be an issue at SLEC. They don't usually do a complete and thorough physical exam (like breast examination). But she can have it excise and have her surgeon do a biopsy just to be sure if it is indeed just a cyst (fibrocystic).

For the sputum exam, if a patient cannot cough out sample, there is a way they can do like giving a saline nebulization first so it will be easier to cough out sputum sample. At SLEC, they can coach her on how to do the sputum exam: 3 deep breaths (inhale and exhale then on the 3rd inspiration, hold the breath and cough out as hard as she can -- in tagalaog, they would say "dahak"...). Good Luck.

thank you , i actually had her t y to do that today. with no luck. i did read on some medical sites they also use a nebulizer,a nd if that fails they use a tube. between that and the lump, even we are far away from the SLEC exam we are kind of worried. thanks again

This is the very thing that has been bugging me more than anything else. I've already consulted a surgeon last year and was told that it is probably benign but I was told to undergo sonomammogram to check if it needs to be removed or they could just extract a liquid sample for biopsy. That was april of last year, until now i have put off getting that sonomammogram, but i am definitely going for it 1 week after my monthly period this month (it is normal to have lumps 1 week before and after menstruation so checking should be done 1 week after that).

Advice given by surgeon was: cut off on oil as much as possible; no chicken skin; pork should be once a month small serving; i could have beef once a week but no beef fat, including that yummylicious part of bulalo :crying: ; lessen or eliminate MSG; yearly medical check up and when i reach 40, i should have mammogram every year there after.

I know it is not contagious and it will not interfere with my getting a visa but when you have this thing, it just scares you off.

i could empathize with that, heck, i'm a true blooded filipina, lover of lechon, chicharon (pork skin) and humba(a delicacy in davao where the most delicious part is the FATS).. and i also love bulalo and crispy chicken skin and anything deep fried.... I'm telling you, i was practically bargaining with the doctor about those NO NO foods.. :crying: .. but in the end, it is still a question on whether i value my health and my life more or those foods... i'm not religiously following Docs advise (its awfully hard when you are surrounded by meat eating and deep fried loving people) but i am trying... well, at least even a little bit :innocent:
