It is possible to give an opinion without implying that someone else is inferior to you because you disagree. Following it all up by "I'm allowed to have an opinion." does not make it ok.

With certain people i am seeing NO that is not possible. But who cares if they feel that way, POST AWAY!

Your allowed to have an opinion :P

I worked in a bridal shop awhile ago, and I can only remember a handful of brides-to-be that mentioned their actual husband-to-be. I always gave them 10% off...which is a lot when you're paying E2000+ for a wedding dress alone! Even having experience of working with some Bridezillas and truly shocking stories of financial costs, I still imagined the full Irish wedding, dress, reception, cake..the works! (I was single then)

Our actual wedding day consisted of me, Rob, my parents and 2 friends in the courthouse. There was no stress for anyone, no... "I'm in trouble for not inviting my 2nd cousin so-and-so"...I'm from a BIG family and that was guaranteed to happen in Ireland! Our day was about us getting married and all that meant for our lives together. Did I grow up with a different picure of my wedding day? Sure, but if I had to do it all over again...I wouldn't change one tiny thing!

A friend of mine got married in London where she lives, and she had all her guests brought to the church in a double-decker red bus. She arrived in a black cab and they had bangers and mash for the meal. I thought that sounded so original!

Everyone is entitled to the wedding they want, if that's something small like ours..perfect, if it's something more formal...perfect! Do what pleases you BOTH, as you're the one who'll hold the memories and look back on the photos :)

It's more than *I* make in a year!

We set a budget in the beginning, but my mom keeps seeing things that she simply HAS to get us...like the nice favors, and church decorations, and centerpieces, and she was insistant that I get the wedding gown I wanted because she had to settle for the gown she could afford rather than the one she loved and she always regretted it. Soon enough it got over the budget...and that's with me and Russ chipping in and/or cutting costs where we can!

I'm pretty grateful to my mom and dad for all of it...they are going to great lengths to make the day special.

And they offered us $10k instead of the big wedding, but we didn't take it, on the basis that we both want the chance to celebrate with all of our friends who couldn't be there when we had our small ceremony.

I had my dream princess wedding for under $3000 which included the airfare to get to Oregon. However, I have a lot of friends and family that were are talented and I am very good at delegating tasks and getting people to do things for free! Such as my make-up, hair, professional pics, video, decorating, and boquet arrangements. When two separate people came up to me and said it was the most beautiful wedding they have ever been to--Ifelt like the true frugal queen!

DITTO! I can't imagine NOT taking the money. But again, I was never the "princess" kind of bride. It's a lot of work and money for ONE day...my friend spent 3000 on a photographer?!?!?! I was in shock.

You can be a princess inexpensively!:yes::yes:

I wanted my tiara too, but it didn't have to be made out of dripping gold...hehehe.

true! I felt like a princess on our wedding day and the wedding cost about $1000(including dress), you just have to get creative. I can not imagine spending over $5000 on a wedding, just because growing up I knew I'd never be able to have that expensive of a wedding because my parents don't have a lot of money. So I always knew I couldn't have an expensive wedding. To think of $10,000+ on a wedding makes my brain hurt, although I know it's a normal price if not lower than the average wedding these days, but definitely not in my family.

But I do think if parents have spent time saving that much money, it is a joy for them to be able spend it on their child's wedding, so I have nothing against it. I just think it's a shame if someone has to keep up with the Jones's, meaning going into serious debt just to have a certain wedding for social status. I know people who have done that and regretted it, and yet I've known others who didn't have to go into debt to have a huge wedding. I just think people should do what they can afford and not have to spend years paying it off.

Anyway if I had been given a choice between 10K cash or a wedding, I'd pick cash, use the $1000 I did for our wedding, and then have $9,000 left for the honeymoon and savings. Man, that would have been awesome!

Your parents say:

You can have the wedding of your DREAMS...any detail you want, done...

or

You can elope and we'll give you 10,000 dollars (average cost of a wedding these days).

With the first option you get NO money. Which would you choose

Take the money but only if you haven't spent your whole life dreaming of your perfect wedding!
