we decided on just the two of us cos I really didn't enjoy my first wedding....there were alot of ppl there and I am not keen on being 'centre of attraction'....it was a fun day but not my cup of tea, we really just wanted a small ceremony then off to the pub, but outside influences took hold and it turned into what it did. Taking off to another country will ensure everything will be as we want it....quiet and small.

Saying that......I LOVE other peoples 'princess' weddings, I get teary eyed.... :P

Everyone should have the wedding they want....:thumbs:

just checking. i'm really not the b!tch people think I am.

 @Karo........

That thread may have been about judgements BUT this thread is not.

Well now that you have said so, may I ask why you felt the need to judge me (incorrectly, at that, since you hadn't even read the whole story and didn't know my reasoning)?

I was making a judgement on your choice, not you.

I don't know you.

You can't judge someone you don't know...

Why do you care so much? If you are secure in your choice then stop trying to defend it...sheesh

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

My mom insisted on throwing us a nice wedding reception; it's was as much for her as for us. Although I'm not the big fairytale wedding type of girl either, we had an amazing time. And we ended up with almost as much in cash and registry gifts as what my mom spent on the wedding.

You can have the best of both worlds!

Hmmm so that whole "you must be a princess bride" had nothing to do with me as a person. Ok thanks for clearing that up.

Did you even read what she posted on my thread? She skipped over the whole discussion and instead decided to come at me because she thought I was simply picking a wedding over a marriage. Without reading the reasons. Calling me a princess bride. Sorry, but if that's not an attack I don't know what is. And to say that I don't care about what people say on a message board after I just asked for people's advice on an important issue is ludicrous (which is something Karo has done herself a number of times).

$10,000.00?

That would not open a can of caviar at a true princess wedding.

The average cost of weddings in America these days tops $25000.00.

My wedding to Wes was my second wedding - my parents always told my sister and I "one wedding per customer" and they meant it!

They did give us $500, which we applied towards the total wdding expenses of about $2300 - which included our rings, my dress, our hotel suite, and a nice meal for 9 people at the schmooziest restaurant in town.

I say you can be a princess on a WHOLE LOT less than 10 grand....

Just think....if someone had given me 10 grand and I paid my wedding expenses, I would still have had $7700 left over.......

I did read what she wrote to you in your thread and i do not agree that she attacked you. She gave her honest thought on weddings and marriage. Alot of people think that way. Either way, your married. The point being, if you know its not a princess wedding, then dont get so upset about it. If i got upset over every harsh thing someone said to me in life, i would already be dead of a stress related heartattack.

Funnily enough I did have that exact option....and I took the wedding! I don't care what people think, I wanted the "princess" wedding and like others have said you should get the wedding that you want :) I wouldn't want one to the tune of $25,000 like RebeccaJo mentioned (it can get absurd and I've tried hard not to let it be, money went to important stuff like food and dress ;)) but I wanted the best I could get for the budget my parents had. My grandfather passed away a couple years ago so it is some of the money from the sale of his house that is paying for my wedding, which I think is very nice, almost like his present to me (I know he would have wanted that too). I only plan on doing this once and I want a big celebration with as many of the people I know as I can afford to feed to celebrate it with me, James, and our family!

And I think we need to take the negative off this term "princess wedding". You can feel like a princess no matter the price and if NOT feeling princessy is your thing...hey whatever...
