The wedding! My wedding is costing more then $10,000. The reception ALONE costs that just for the food and rental space. Add to that limo, dress, dj, photos, flowers, etc and the prices sky-rockets.

Yeah right I wish. If THAT were true I'd be in a HOUSE right now and not a condo - which was all we could afford.

They didn't ever have to offer that. I never was a big wedding girl. It just wasn't even something that was that important to me...ya know?

BUT had they offered ANY money in exchange I would have snatched it up!

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

Sounds like us, Stina -- we got our platters of sandwiches/nibblies from the deli department at Reasor's! All made up beautifully, with great breads, cheeses, meats, fruit, etc etc. And we made the dessert squares ourselves from mixes! And no one knew the difference. it was great......and cheap! ;)

To answer karo's original question -- I would take the moolah and run!

You know I was freaking out about telling mom and dad - but they took it pretty well. I spelled it out to them in financial and immigration terms. It was cheaper and would get Stewart here faster.

That made them more excited about it :)

Eloping was the best thing I ever did!

That's great that it worked out that way for you! Unfortunately, eloping would extend the length of our process...which is why we decided against it.

Honestly, there isn't anything wrong with wanting a princess wedding. Like I said, I wanted the princess deal, but it was more about how I felt for the day than an actual excess of money. If you want all the pomp, and can afford it, you should do it...but then not complain that you don't have the house you want. You make choices and you choose what is right for you. Personally, I wouldn't have wanted sandwiches, pizza and beer, or a picnic for a wedding. But what I DID have was important to me because it was important to my husband, so it made it perfect. We had roast beef with yorkshire pudding (look to the left and you'll see why Yorkshire pudding is important! ) and a dessert drizzled with Baileys...why Baileys? Because when hubster first proposed, the fanciest thing we could to toast ourselves to immediately was Baileys. So you choose what's important, be it the location, food, dress, photographer, etc. That said, our wedding was nowhere near 10,000.

oh yeah, don't read this wrong - it's not a judgement question - just a WHAT WOULD YOU DO question.

However, it is about judgments. At least when you judged me for wanting an actual wedding it was...what kind of person would want an actual wedding other than a "princess bride" right? That's your term that you brought up.
