hi riza,

I am also chem engr in the Phil....

Read your post about credential evaluation... I have a classmate here who already works and he said that he had his evaluation in Educational Perspective for $160. He also took the exam....Engineer in training which is known before as FE (fundamentals of engg).. But as a chem engr, he said that we dont really need this exam coz we are more involved in manufacturing. It is more applicable to those in consulting firms with EE or CE degrees. Hope this helps!

As for me, I'm still weighing my options. Have to submit the AOS package first!

Hello,

I'm a mechanical engineer, I worked for a well know company back in my home country, now after I moved to the US I find really hard to get a job in the same fields, most of the jobs ask for an experience in design which I never did but I still have the principle of it since I studied that back in collage.

So, does anybody know a good technique on getting a job here in the US for a mechanical engineer, oh and what is EIT? what do they have on that exam? where do I need to sign up for it? how much will it cost?

Thank a lot for your reply.

if you are an engineer with a non-US degree in engineering it would be prudent to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and successfully pass it. This will help show to potential employers that the engineering degree that you obtained from a non-US university is a valid degree. Or another way of doing it is getting your masters (MS) in your particular field of engineering from a US university.

I have known engineers with non-US degrees in engineering take design/drafting or technician positions in companies in an effort to get technical experience in a US company.

The potential problem with that is being locked into that position without being able to advance to an engineering position.

About 15 years ago I was working for a hi-tech company and one of the designers there had obtained a masters in mechanical engineering from a university in mainland China. She was smart and definitely knew how to do engineering analysis but was stuck being a designer and receiving a mechanical designer's pay. I would have her review my stress calcs and on one occasion she found an error. I then would have her do some of the calcs. I tried talking to her supervisor to try to give her tasks that were more fitting to her educational level but I was rebuffed by him.
