In looking at my wife's 2 year green card her country of origin was USSR. The same for her 5 year old son. They traveled to Russia using these cards last summer. Now we have the new 10 year cards. I noticed her country of origin is now Russia. But her sons 10 year card has USSR. We are concerned about the use of USSR. There is no USSR any longer. For at least 10 years it has been "Russian Federation".

Should we persue another card for the son showing Russia as country of origin? I would hate for them to travel and be pulled aside because there is no country named USSR now.

All of the forms we filled out we never once used USSR as the country name.

ah, good to see it is not just the Treasury Department that is confused! I received a letter from those guys asking for clarification of my bank accounts in West Germany... never mind that there has not been a "West Germany" for how many years now???

I don't think I would worry too much about having USSR listed on the GC. They will still need to have their Russian passports to travel anyway. At least the GC is valid!
