Well, I am shocked! After all of the problems getting my passport application together I finally sent it off by UPS on the evening of January 17th. It was delivered to the Passport Office in Hull on January 21st at 9:30 am. I expected it would be at least mid-March before I heard anything, but this morning DHL delivered my new passport, dated January 30th! Incredible!

I don't think I got my last passport that quickly when I still lived in Canada and dropped the application off in person.

So, one less thing to worry about. I am definitely still in shock, though!

(also, I am having serious problems with my computer since yesterday so don't know how successfully I will be here for the next few days. I think we will have to break down and get a replacement!)

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

WOW that was fast , congrats

about your computer did you clean cookies and tempory internet files history , and run a virus scan , a spy sweaper , also my advice is run a registry cleaner ( it will fix all errors on the puter )

if you dont have one you can donload it on download.com

or pcworld.com ( there are other great sites but dont want to write a book about all the links ,lol )

my recomandations on a good registry cleaner are , eather the CCleaner , easy cleaner ( by tony arts ) , Euse free registry cleaner , or registry mechanic ( for this one you will have to pay to get the full version working ) good luck

Thanks for the computer advice - we are pretty sure it is the motherboard that is 'broken'. As well, the screen on the laptop has gone out and I am having to operate it hooked up to a plug in monitor and keyboard as neither work properly on the laptop. It sounds alarms when it is turned on, will load Windows 1 time out of 5, and then will start to 'race' - all of the pull down menus will open and close quickly across all of the headers regardless of whether I am in Outlook or have the browser open. Surprisingly, what does work, is if I can get Word to open, it starts to behave, the racing starts and I can access Outlook and Firefox with it behaving normally. As well, it freezes during the process of turning off and won't shut down automatically anymore.

We were able to save off all of my files, documents and bookmarks last night and will be out computer hunting later on today. I do daily scheduled virus scans, and spyware scans and all incoming and outgoing emails are inspected, plus we did a major clean up of not just temporary files but a lot of junk I had downloaded and needed to remove last week. We are on an internal network in the house (my husband is a computer programmer) and have both the network firewall and an individual firewall on each machine, so we are pretty sure everything is clean (it says it is).

This is an older laptop - one I inherited from my husband after he got a new one 2 years ago. I think it is just its time. Thanks though, your advice was good.

Wow - what a useful site. I will have to pay attention to what the beep alarm is - it sounded like one short repeating beep, however, that says no power - but then it eventually stops and will sometimes load up Windows after all. Interesting.

maybe all it needs is the battery changed , its a lil cell inside the puter ( i bet you guys know what I'm talking about )

glad you like this site , it sure helped me with a lot of trouble on my kids puter ( they crashed it once had to change battery and get previouse documents back doin slave drive boot,)

now tought my aliens ( kids ) everything i know so they wont mess it up again ,

and if they do oh well at least they know how to fix a virus now , lol

oh one more thing , did you try to take the battery out and leave it out for about an hour then put it back in ? that might work before buying a new one ( even tho theyr not expansive maybe 5 bucks )

HOLY #######! I AM IMPRESSED!

I DIDN'T DARE SEND MY PASSPORT IN THE MAIL.

I MADE A TRIP FROM OREGON TO VICTORIA BC LAST SEPTEMBER AND DID THE

DREADED LINE UP! I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THEY DID NOT CLIP THE CORNERS

OF MY K-3 VISA! IN MY OLD PASSPORT.

NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY IMMEDIATELY GAVE ME BACK MY OLD PASSPORT AND

I HAD TO GO BACK TO VICTORIA BC AND "PERSONALLY PICK UP" MY PASSPORT

FROM THE PASSPORT OFFICE 2 WEEKS LATER.

AT LEAST I AM NOW GOOD FOR ANOTHER 4.5 YEARS AT THIS DATE!

Alright, sorry I haven't been on in a while. . . Hope everyone is doing great.

Since I'm heading to Toronto in a few days to visit my sister  , I want to get my passport renewed while i'm there. I'm just wondering if it matters if I fill in the online version (pdf), or the other online version (both are under the Canadians living the the USA section)? It sounds like I have to print both off anyways, so I doubt it matters.

Another thing, for us US permanent residents, does the new guarantor policy apply to us? Or do we still have to us the old passport guarantor policy? I'm going to be meeting up with a few people of my friends while I'm out there and just wondering if they can sign (they have a valid passport)?

That's all for now! THanks!
