the only time I have really been asked for the SSN number is when I am filling out doctor's forms but i just tell them I don't know my number and it is never an issue.. I guess because the health insurance is in my hubby's name... I do know my hubby's SSN

If they don't want you to carry your SSN on your person, why does everyone ask for it wherever you go and whatever you do?

You get asked for your SSN a lot, but how many places actually want to see your card?

You're supposed to memorize your SSN. With time, you will.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I received my GC on friday and, although I understand it's important to carry proper Identification, this is an important card that's hard to replace! and, the magnetic strip in the back makes me think that it can't handle everyday wallet carrying

Saludos,

Caro

FWIW, your green card won't deteriorate if you carry it in your wallet. My wifes hasn't.

Really? does she use the protective envelope or just plain carry it with other cards?

I did see your previous post Kez, but the reason for this poll is to get other people's input on all ID issues. I appreciate your participation, but this poll is suppose to be broader than the way you're looking at it.
