I have never seen crowds of day labourers. Does not seeing these things make me niave? I guess if that's so, then I am.
Same crowds that are clogging up ERs...

Somehow most of us with a bit of common sense are not seeing these crowds. :help:

Try to go through the day with your eyes open. It helps tremendously. ;)
Dunno, like I told our sailor friend, the adult ER is right in front of my window (the building across the street) and the kids' ER is kitty corner around my building at work. No cloggin from ilegales if you know what I mean ;)

So the hospitals just make this shite up. And public heath facilities crumble under the financial burden of treating the undocumented just because they lack common sense. The day laborers at the Home Depot and Lowe's are simply the figment of the imagination of those that see and use them. Is that the essence of what you're saying? I'd say it's time for you to wake up.

Lol...

Blame me for looking at the ER right across the street. Or worse, walking around the hospital breezeway and actually seeing the waiting room on my way to the door.

Or better yet, just forgo humanity and don't treat people? Last week a woman had to give birth right on the street outside John Stroger Hospital (Cook County, public) and she wasn't even illegal according to what I heard- just poor.

Funny you bring up Home Depot. I'll be driving by one in a bit and maybe I can ask the management office to show me the immigration status of their day labor force. Or I can just yell "La Migra"... Then again... they can choose to obey the law themselves. Or is there something we, as voters, can do... like holding our elected officials to actually be honorable... at home and abroad? Then everyone would be happy and we wouldn't have 20 illegals threads a day here in OT. Until then we'll continue having the same debate over and over.

LOL. You continually bring up your statistically irrelevant (personal) observation of a single ER, in some obscure place in Illinois, and thereby empirically imposing the absurd notion that because **YOU** haven't observed the FACT that many public hospitals are burdened with "undocumented" and therefore illegal immigrants, that it isn't rue.

You've ignored, and otherwise haven't addressed any of the posts whereby I, and others have pointed out to you through verifiable linked sources the content of those relevant articles that statistically disprove your single observation !

Yes, we get it...You've never seen day laborers and crowded ER rooms occupied by mostly Hispanic "undocumented" residents and refuse to believe so even though the statistics were collected by the affected Hospitals in the affected communities.

So we should all just acquiesce to your point of view based on your narrow empirical observation?

Get a clue!

Ok, state taxes CA.

"While it has changed over time and changes somewhat from year-to-year, about 52 to 55 percent of the State General Fund Budget is spent on K-12 and Higher Education."

How does one work out the % of that % that directly funds an illegal immigrant? Well, the estimate I found for illegal immigrants as a group in California was 6% of the population. However, let's be generous and say there are what 10%? Ok, but not all of these can be children going through the education system. So, let's say 10% of that 10% are children of illegal immigrants going through education. Then we had better deduct say what? 5% for being those pesky anchor babies and yes, that would seem to leave a drop in the ocean of your or my tax dollars being spent on illegal immigrants.

However, you can get feisty about how your tax dollars are spent all you like. I just said, it's not something I get all bent out of shape about.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Exactly, dignified in reality...

Since you say you're a local, I'll illustrate some of the area hospitals I've picked human tissues from for my work:

1. University of Chicago Hospitals

2. Northwestern Memorial Hospitals

3. University of Illinois Hospital

4. John Stroger Hospital

5. Swedish Covenant Hospital

6. Lake Forest Hospital

7. Central Dupage

8. Loyola University Hospital

9. Silver Cross Hospital

10. South Suburban Hospital

11. West Suburban Hospital

Care to have more names? Since I doubt any illegals had any yellow burritos on their heads denoting they were actually illegals, and I usually pick up tissues at the time they are available, hint hint... all around the clock, my narrow, empirical observations are pretty clear. Clue enough??

That's one person's observations, not beliefs. I say when you decide to make blanket statements that paint you in a particular light that you at least do so with actual facts and not trollicky behavior. Then again, its your right to do as you please.

You'd probably panic if you actually read and saw that I do not support illegal immigration. Oh well.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Did I say they were making things up?

Jeez... #######...

I think I've been pretty clear that its been personal observation versus overgeneralized, blanket statements based on anti-immigrant sentiment. Oops, sorry, I labeled someone.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

From Saturday Night Live - February 1976

"White Guilt Relief Fund"

[in front of a brick wall, Garrett Morris, wearing suit and tie, his head cocked to one side as if he were missing a bone from his neck, addresses the camera.]

Garrett Morris: Hi. I'm Garrett Morris, talkin' to all you white Americans about the way black people have been treated in America. Now, I know a lot of you feel guilty -- and you should. My great-great-grandmother was brought over here on a slave ship and was raped by her white master. And my grandfather was lynched by a mob for not tippin' his hat to a white lady. Now, they're dead now and there's nothing you can do to erase their suffering. However, if you would like to relieve your guilt, I am willing to accept money as a representative victim of four hundred years of repression. Send your check or money order to White Guilt Relief Fund, care of Garrett Morris, 870 West 127th Street, New York, New York 10089--

[superimposed text reads: WHITE GUILT RELIEF FUND c/o Garrett Morris, 870 West 127th Street, New York, New York 10089]

" -- and if you send in before July 4th, 1976, [holds up a parchment scroll and an orange card] I will send you this beautiful scroll and I.D. card certifying you as an honorary Negro in the eyes of several black Americans! Once again, that address!

[smiling, Garrett pauses as Don Pardo takes over.]

Announcer: White Guilt Relief Fund, in care of Garrett Morris, 870 West 127th Street, New York, New York 10089. Send cash or money. I know I have. I felt just terrible until I did.

Garrett Morris: Thank you!

Dog, he clearly knows the truth...

Windows and doors exist and waiting rooms are clearly visible from the halls of the hospital. Maybe the illegal clog is in another room... I'll check tomorrow and get back to you...

Plus, my lab is physically connected to the hospital. Same hallways, so maybe I actually know what I'm saying.

Wow, so you watch those windows 24/7? What a life!

Visit an LA-area hospital, maybe I actually know what I'm saying. ;)

been there, done that, Dev.

And its hard to not look. The winter views are sometimes georgeous. And the ER also happens to be in between the entry and exit on a daily basis. Make a livelihood in a Medical complex and you'll know what I mean. We can also check around farming communities for all those extra ilegales clogging up the ERs too... oh... I did mention somewhere my sis is an actual MD working that crowd and nope... no clogs there either.

I don't know why trying to distort reality to further one's means is so special, other than just using our bandwidth here on VJ, but maybe the rush to conclude one's own point of view as the only true point of view is more important than actually being a sentient human being.

And the 24/7 observation from yours truly you so disrespectfully quote up there. If you want to use deductive logic to point out others' words, try equally applying it at home. I at least try to stay factual based on what I see.
