My fiancee's POE was on Jan 13th. We went applied on Jan 28th, 15 days after her entry. We were called and then we were told that she name wasn't on the computer yet and they said that it usually it takes 10 days to be in and we were there on the 10th day (business days) so they said that they were going to contact immigration and if everything goes well, her SS will process electronically and recieve it within 10-15 days.

In the mean time we applied for the marriage license and we are getting married this comming Saturday.

What should I be looking at next?

Honeymoon? Celebration? Less time for golf?

Oh, and be sure to file the I-485 for Adjustment of Status as soon as you can! File I-131 and I-765 along with it since the fees are included and you will want the travel and work benefits ASAP (generally).

Congratulations on your accomplishments so far. May your marriage be blessed with harmony

Congrats!!! All you really need to do next is fill out the AOS paperwork. If you want to get it in a few days early, call the courthouse in your county and see if you can bring in the marriage certificate/lisence thingy and have it certified and recorded. Ours did, so we had our actual license (the one to send in with AOS) the Tuesday after our marriage (Monday was a holiday :) ). Good luck!!!

I have a quesiton to this also - thank you for mentioning the SSN:

So - all I have to do after arriving in the states to get my SSN is go to the office and apply for one?

How does my name get into their computer?

Does USCIS send my information to the SS office?

What do I need to bring with me when I want to apply for a SSC?

do I have to make an appointment?

Sorry for asking so many questions

So - all I have to do after arriving in the states to get my SSN is go to the office and apply for one? The general rule of thumb is 10 days after POE.

How does my name get into their computer? From the info entered at the POE

Does USCIS send my information to the SS office? No

What do I need to bring with me when I want to apply for a SSC? http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10002.html#how I'd also print and take this: https://secure.ssa.gov/apps10/poms.nsf/lnx/0100203500

do I have to make an appointment? Can vary on which SSA office you visit, but generally not.

Sorry for asking so many questions

do I have to make an appointment?

As far as I know, no SSA office schedules appointments for SSN applications.

Just find your local office and go in:

http://www.ssa.gov/locator

However, if you live in the Brooklyn or Queens, NY, Phoenix, AZ or Las Vegas, NV areas, you must apply at an SSA Card Center.
