We typed Jena's letter and we both signed and dated it the day of the interview. It's not unusual for a couple to forget to mention that they want to pick up the visa. A letter in my hand helped to remind me.

Roserick, why would you suggest not to bring a letter? Do you think the chances of getting permission to pick up the visa are better without a letter requesting it or that it doesn't make any difference? Writing a letter seems like a very easy thing to do and costs almost nothing.

Action Speak louder than words...

Technically.. Now this is technically ok..

You gotta buy a paper, pen, or the hassle of typing it..

What's the hassle of saying it?

Well you just heard it from another poster.. Not really an official rules by USEM..

Good Luck though..

I did mine typewritten and signed it. The CO seemed to enjoy reading it, at least he was smiling and he chuckled a little bit, maybe because it was worded so formally. If I remember when I get home tonight I can post it here.

They told me flat out that I needed to give them a written request and many of us here know from experience that a written request will give you your best shot at getting them to approve.

Who?

If so.. Why can they just put it on their USEM website?

Like "If you would like to request a visa pickup please have a written/typed letter and a valid reason for the Visa Pickup"

Writing a letter or not, whatever you think will do you good, go for it.

In my case, I asked the consular officer for a visa pick-up during my interview. I stated the reasons very well, we chatted a bit, and I got the visa 2 days after the interview. But prior to asking, I had to "discern" the outcome of the interview and the officer's mood. You don't want to be "pleading" or sounding abrasive either. Either way, this seems to irritate most of the officers (the officer actually told me this when I bumped into him again for the visa pick-up). It all depends on the consular officer.

Good luck! I hope to see good news from you here on VJ.
