I wonder what the people who object so much McCain's choice of that word would say if they had been tortured by those guys.

Ooh goody. A completely pointless, irrelevant and goddamit, plain dumb guilt trip.

Reality is so much more "messy" than philosophy.

I don't think anyone here is questioning or ridiculing McCain's POW experiences - so I'm not sure why you brought this up.

Does it make him right to use a racist epithet 30+ years after the event? Doubtful.

Will it make a difference to his campaign at the end of the day? Probably not.

Unless you've walked in his shoes that's clearly something you'll never know....

As I say - its irrelevant seeing as I'm not and haven't ridiculed McCain's POW experiences. Twist it however you want - that fact isn't going to change.

Racist is as racist does.

Sorry, I have a policy of not feeding the trolls....

But you do seem to have a policy of filling your mouth with large quantities of equine waste.

Wooooaaaaaaa!!!

Time to get the first PWNED of the thread... LOL

Number- Unfortunately your debating skills are lacking as you resort to personal attacks as soon as someone challenges your experiences and perspective.

Have you any perspective such as that experienced by McCain to draw on to come to the conclusion that he has no right to hurl an epithet 30 years after the fact?

maviwaro- What's to say about this guy? Lots of crazies in this forum.....BTW, maviwaro I'm a white male married to a black woman......racist? troll is a legit label for you.

I stand by comments- Al Sharpton and his ilk artificially raise the levels of rhetoric when any epithet is uttered at any time. He’s well known to engage in race baiting and it’s something he's made a living of.

His behavior actually diminishes the legitimate complaints of the black community by the fact that he's always over the top.

Now back on topic here. McCain said the epthet. Now the liberals in this forum, lofty as they always tell us they are, want to hang their hat on a technicality- yes....he said and probably shouldn't! So what?

I'm just tired of oxygen going to those that deserve it least... but hey! I can't judge human stupidity... others will judge them for that.

And of course... those that are tired of reading certain topics can tune themselves out...

Had you been a POW and been treated as he was you would not ave kind words for your tormenters either.

He is speaking of the prison guards who do indeed deserve it.

True, he can say what he wants, and as an American he enjoys freedom of speech. I dont begrudge him his anger, and I admire him for his service. But if his experiences have altered his perceptions to the point that he can use no other language than a racial slur PUBLICLY to describe ANYONE, he is clearly, albeit sadly handicapped by these horrible experiences and is in no way fit to hold any type of public office. That word is offensive to all Asians and should be offensive to all Americans as well.

It' s the same as a white person saying that they "have many black friends, but those kids that mugged me last month were just a bunch of N.....s." Its just wrong. A stream of profanities would be excusable, but the CIC of the United States must not EVER display any evidence of racism.

I think nearly everyone who has posted in this thread agrees that McCain was careless to have used that term, even if he was referring only to his captors. You just can't throw around a term like that--especially one so evocative of a horrendous, relatively recent conflict--and expect people to nod politely. Acknowledging this in no way dismisses McCain's experience. I imagine that he wishes he'd never said it.

And your friend Al Sharpton has nothing to do with this.

I didn't make any claims about McCain's experiences in Vietnam (unlike certain members of his own party who have). That doesn't and isn't going to change no matter how much you claim otherwise.

As I said - I disagree with his use of a racist epithet, I don't think it makes him a racist, but as an elected representative of the people I don't think its justifiable.

As for "perspective", at least I know where to go now if I need a good, experienced manure salesman.

Well a lot of people haven't forgiven her - she had some run-ins with a few vets during a book tour she did a couple years ago. As for the rest - a lot of time has gone by, she's out of the limelight and is largely irrelevant to the younger generations.
