Horrible! What is even more disturbing is there's been a number of stories like that recently. *sigh* Why can't these women put the baby up for adoption...I'd adopt one in a New York minute. :(

I know Karen...I almost cried seeing her little face. The mother or father is probably a crack addict and is spun out of their tree.

I'm glad someone found her...hopefully they can find her a loving, safe home as well.

What really irks me in these situations, is that in many states a mother can leave these kids at certain places and not be prosecuted (fire halls, hospitals, etc)

On the other hand (maybe the RN (student) in me) sort of feels for the mother. What kind of mental distress is she under. I was on the post pardum floor tonight at the hospital, and worked in the nursery! I had a blast. Got to hold brand new spanking babies, feed them, chg the diapers, assist in a bath, was awesome!! It was such an experience just to hold and rock a baby to sleep that had only been on this planet for like 6 hours!! 6HOURS!!! unreal! As much as we want to strangle the mother (father) there has to be something majorly wrong for her to do that!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Post partum depression can be pretty bad. Some mothers are known to kill the child. Abandoning a child after 8 mos., I'd suspect that it might be a mother with some kind of addiction as opposed to post partum depression. It could even be Munchausen by proxy but usually the parent holds on to the kid.

I know that area pretty well. I grew up not far from there. Junior high was a 5 minute walk from there and high school was 15 minutes away. There is a housing project across the street. I knew a few people who lived there and it wasn't that bad. Certainly not Jane and Finch. Pretty quiet. Lloyd Robertson used to live in the area. Bud McDougald (along with E.P. Taylor taught Conrad Black how to be a respectable businessman :( ) had his estate there (since been torn down and infilled with $600k houses). That mall used to be a bit more middle-class but has gone downhill in the last 15 years. It was freezing in Toronto today, the wind was pretty bad, averaging 65 km/h. The person who called 911 is a hero. Sounds like the poor kid was abused too. Not too many people park on the upper level of the parking garage, it really is a miracle that she is alive. North York General Hospital is only two or three stoplights south of there, a two-minute drive or so. Very sad, things like that don't happen in quiet, safe Willowdale. :crying:

Brother, you are wise.

I am also sad for the child and hope they find a good loving home for her, but I have the policy of not jumping my gun and concluding why folks do crazy things... specially when it comes to the possibility of real mental illness being an item.
