I emailed this before Waleed went into the Egyptian military and I'm still waiting for a reply. He was given these email addresses from the American Embassy in Cairo. He went there before he went into the Egyptian Military to ask them about what we can do for our situation. Does it take a long time to get a reply from them? Does anyone else in MENA know the answers to these questions? We haven't gotten much reply in other areas. I resent the emails just now to both addresses:

Non Immigrant: consularcaironiv@state.gov

Immigrant : consularcairoiv@state.gov

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Dear Sir or Madam,

My Husband and I have received notice from the Egyptian Military for him to come serve. He showed up and has been in their "lock down" from Jan. 20th, 2008 - March 1st, 2008. There is no communication between us during this time.

Our K3 (I-130) & K1 (I-129F) petitions were approved for the NOA2 at the same time. I have included the following information for our petitions as follows:

Receipt Number: (My case number)

Application Type: I129F, PETITION FOR FIANCE(E)

Current Status: Approval notice sent on December 14, 2007

Receipt Number: (My case number)

Application Type: I130, IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN

Current Status: Approval notice sent on December 14, 2007

Now we are having a few questions.

The first question is: What do we do to not to lose our approvals for our visas while my Husband is indisposed in the Egyptian Army? He also tells me he doesn't have a passport right now.

Second the deadline for the I-129F is April 13th and we would like to know what we can do to over come this obstacle without going through the process from the beginning? We have already waited for seven months and now that wait may be much longer due to the Egyptian military letter saying he may have to serve for one year to sixteen months after the "lock down" period. I assume by "lock down" they are referring to a training period or boot camp.

Third question is more simple than the first two. Since we have the two petitions approved can we go through both of them together? Do we have the option were we're able to chose either one of them or are we forced to go in only one pathway? If so, then which one do we have to take?

Thank you for your continued support,

Olivia (my last name)

I hope you hear from them soon. :(

I still don't understand the whole "lockdown" concept though. When my husband's best friend recently entered the military he was able to communicate with everyone in his family, unless maybe they just don't allow overseas calls? Just seems odd to me unless he's in a different section of the military or something.

Normally I hear from the consulate within a week of my email.

I don't know anything about the Egyptian Military or why they would call it lock down or what is going on or anything for that matter. I do hope I hear from ppl I emailed about what to do.

Here is what I asked his sister:

Dear Ghada,

How are you? I have made one of the pix of sleeping Sarah my computer wallpaper. She looks like a sleeping angel. I love my little nieces pix and I thank you for sending them to me. I got to speak with Nada briefly and I also spoke with Ahmed for a while in one of the phone calls before Waleed left.

Have you heard any news from Waleed? If so how is he? He told me he was going into the Egyptian Military lock down for 45 days until March 1st. It's only been a week and it's very hard for me. I don't know anything about the Egyptian Military. I am being told by some people here who have spouses and friends and family there that they don't understand why he can't have contact with me. They know people who also went into the Egyptian Military a week ago and that they could contact their family and friends anytime they wanted. Is this true? If so what is going on?

Regards,

Olivia

Here is his Sisters reply:

Dear Olivia,

thank you for your concern, me and the girls are ok, mahmoud in his way now to Florida for 5 days training course, about waleed, what l know about him not more than you do, last news is the lock down 45 days camp for newly serving in military, during that period no one can contact them this is the rules after that they take few days off every week, two week or a month according to the department they will distrebute to,,,

as l know this period is the most difficult one and after that every thing will be ok, and l always have that hope they are going to release him after they investigate his case well,,,

for you l want you to calm down yourself and be sure that every thing will be ok it is matter of time and nothing is rapidley passing like days and nights

we believe that peolpe meet each other by certain date they do not know but our GOD do,,,

take care of your self

best wishes

i dont know if they have a number but i know it wd still be difficult to get anything true out of them!!

my advice is ... as soon as the 45 days are over... he shud try to find some contact in the army ..someone he knows at a personal level with high rank ... someone they wd have a million reason to respect!! if he really finds one.. things can easily work out!

When my fiance applied for military and we discussed it..he said he'd be in "bootcamp", "lockdown" for 6 weeks with no ability to communicate. Then come home for a vacation period then start his assignment. So I see no reason to think something is up with the lockdown period...After this..he is more free to communicate..similar to our bootcamp and service. My son in law had no contact but mail for 3 months of bootcamp but was able to communicate once stationed. good luck

This is pretty much what my husband said. The lockdown period is really hard, but afterward he should have some comunication. If he has any contacts that might help him out he should use them during his vacation time. I hope he has money to pay bribes, ect... that would help him find a contact to get him released. My hubby tells me this is probably his easiest route to getting out.

Thx everyone! I've gotten several emails from unrelated Egyptians saying that the 45 days no communication during boot camp or lock down is so typical. So I am satisfied with that. Does anyone have any idea on the other questions though?

That's a relief Olivia!!! I'm gonna whack my husband upside the head when I see him again since he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about!!!!!!! I have no idea on the other questions but hopefully they'll answer you soon!
