We didnt want big either and by the time all the running around is done your exhausted, his mom and sister did have me a nice dress, we ate with the family (lunch) family uncles, aunts, cousins then we went back to our house (his sisters but we were living there) did the henia party with foods and drinks, dancing and music etc then ate again later in the evening but the ceremony as such was just a signing of a book with his dad and uncle present to witness. It all left a little "oh thats it" feeling but there was no way we could do the elaborate all out ceremony/party

I only see two pictures :( We wanted to have the big party - and my husband started talking about it a few months ago (we're going this month). But then it sort of just went away. So I don't know if he's still planning to have a party or not. We are bringing the baby with and since this is the first time he'll be there they will have a party for him (no circumcision I took care of that when he was born!). So we'll see. Part of me wants to remind him, but part of me wants to let it be and see if he's planning it behind my back. I guess the only disapointment would really be if there is no party at all and I'm afraid it would really break my heart!

Beautiful pics, ladies! Dillydally you are adorable! You resemble my SIL, Dalia, so much. :)

I didn't go to Egypt with a 100% certainty that we would get married. We had a simple, at home wedding party with family and a few neighbors. I bought a lovely, deep blue galabiya to wear for the party. Now if I told y'all I didn't want anything fancier I'd be lying. What girl doesn't want to be a pretty, pretty princess and have a big party on her wedding day? I married a man with very limited finances plus time didn't allow for much. You just can't put a piece of coal up your rear and pull out a diamond, yanno?

wow thanks for the responses ladies! Those of you who posted pics look GORGEOUS! Wahrania that jewelry is breathtaking! WOW!

I hope down the line my husband and I can have a wedding in Morocco. We didn't have a wedding here when we got married (just him and I at the courthouse alone) and I always dreamt of having a beautiful wedding growing up. :(

This was our situation when we got married in Nepal. I would have loved the whole nine yards with 5 days of parties, hired musicians, etc. but neither of us is rich and we planed everything quickly - there was not enough time and money for all of G's relatives and school friends to come from his village so we just had a small wedding and a party for just his nearby family and friends at a restaurant. We only had 1 week between our official engagement and wedding so there was a lot to do in a short time. My SIL's and next door neighbor did my henna the night before - I didn't sleep at all that night!! In the end it was very traditional and sweet and somehow more special because it was more low-key. We will probably have another small wedding here at a temple in NYC for my family and friends and we are also going to have an anniversary party for G's school friends.

Sorry not MENA but I can relate to your situation

Did any of you have a full-on wedding in a MENA country? I mean the party, dresses, dancing, the whole nine yards! How did you plan it from the US? Did you let your MIL and family plan it for you or did you have some sort of participation? Post photos too if you want to share any! Your dress, cake, party, location, whatever! :)

I did - but it was in israel so different customs, not sure if anyone is interested. But logistically I brought my dress, the cake wasnt american style but I didnt care so much, the party was above and beyond anything i could have here for the money, we had about 250 people! I chose the location when I was there 9 months prior and I was mailed menus so I could pick all 100 things I wanted them to serve. It was awesome! I had about 20 people fly over there and we rented a big van and toured everyone around israel for our honeymoon (we made up for it later with a trip to hawaii)

oh and also I had a henna party the week before the wedding because my husband is moroccan israeli. it was awesome i actually loved it more than the wedding it was a blast! i think its different in israel though. men and women were all together playing moroccan/arabic music tons of food changing into 4 diffferent moroccan outfits (for the men they were fancy jellibias, for the women they were more like sexy saris!!!) and everyone puts on fezes and jellabias. and then they do the henna ceremony with the henna but its different - i think because jews dont do tattoos they just rub it on your hand, no fancy design :( they also gave us gifts. vs at the wedding where they only give cash (and there is a safe to receive it in?!)

Of course we're interested in the Israeli customs! Well I am anyway... I would like a wedding in Morocco someday but I would like to incorporate my personal heritage somehow too! :)

Bridget I love the first cream colored one a lot. But actually they're all pretty ! :)
