So is anyone else out there a returned VSO volunteer needing a police check from the country they served for 2 years? I am having HUGE difficulty getting one from Vanuatu (have been trying for 4 months now) and do have a letter from VSO. Is this enough? Does anyone else have a similar experience?

You could have the bureaucracy help you.. or you can do it yourself...

POLICE AND PRISON RECORDS

Available. Applicants should write to the Office of the Police Commissioner, Private Mail Bag 014, Port Vila, Republic of Vanuatu; Phone: (678) 26570, Fax: (678) 22800. The police charge a small fee for this service. Quality of information is sometimes uneven. An automated information system is planned but not yet fully implemented; criminal records from police stations are currently forwarded to police headquarters for manual entry. There are no reliable alternative methods of background checks.

sounds good in theory but they will not fax the form you need to complete to you and they only accept the fee in vatu -no other currency will do, and no bank out of Vanuatu carries Vatu!! Anywats I got it in the end thanks to the help of the VSO office...
